Ok i will be formal

Characterization~ The process by which an author reveals a character's personality and traits.

Characterization has 2 types: Direct and indirect

Direct Characterization: The author directly (and specifically) TELLS/reveals a character's traits in a straightforward manner)

Indirect Characterization: The author SHOWS and describes the character's traits through dialogue and actions

To infer/find out a character's personality/traits, we follow STEAL:
Speech
Thinking
Effect on others
Actions
Looks (physical appearance)

Example: - direct
I was at a job interview. The manager interviewed me. She was about 6 feet tall and had a serious look on her face. She wasn't all that bad, though. Sure she would give me that nasty smirk, but she was supportive and thoughtful. She didn't have the sweetest voice, but she was responsible enough to hold a business. I'm glad I get to work with her.

What i can find out about the manager: She is sweet, supportive, thoughtful, responsible and she looks like she is serious. (she can fool you with her looks :3 )

Example: -indirect
Jaiden was accepted into her dream job. It was first day of work. She went to the headquarters and met the manager. "You can't fool around too much," the manager exclaimed, "I only hired you because we needed more employees... Be thankful." Jaiden wasn't bothered by his words. She continued on with her day in hopes that she meets some friendly co-workers. She did. Jaiden liked her job. She helped co-workers in need at the offices and even managed to get the title of "best employee of the month." She wasn't going to quit anytime soon.

From this paragraph/story, I can infer that Jaiden is: hardworking, responsible, hopeful, helpful and strong/confident.

(I "highlighted" the clues)

BY THE WAY I wrote those.

Naya Wardeh 7C
