         <description><![CDATA[<p><br/></p><ul><li><p>Boddingtons beer was brewed at Strangeways Brewery in Manchester for around 227 years.</p></li><li><p>Thomas Caister and Thomas Frey were grain merchants that found Strangeways Brewery in 1778. </p></li><li><p>Built it to steer away from paying tax to the Manchester Grammar School</p></li><li><p>Strangeways brewery was found and created on the eve of the Industrial Revolution. </p></li><li><p>Henry Boddington was a traveller for the company and arrived at the Brewery in 1832.</p></li><li><p>After he made a partner in business he was a sole proprietor of the company and the Boddingtons developed a family buisness.</p></li><li><p>During the 1870s, the company expanded Strangeways and obtained other breweries.</p></li><li><p>On December 22nd 1940, when Manchester was hit by a massive air raid, Strangeways Brewery was afflicted.</p></li><li><p>Brewery was demanded to be stopped for many months after damage and destruction.</p></li><li><p>When the war ended, the Boddingtons modernized and upgraded the brewery.</p></li><li><p>Strangeways Brewery was expanded again and the state-of-the-art brewing equipment was put in.</p></li><li><p><a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strangeways_Brewery">https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strangeways_Brewery</a></p><p><br/></p></li><li><p>The company was sold to Whitbread by the last chairman Ewart Boddington in 1989.</p></li><li><p>In 2000, Whitbread sold their brewing business to InBev and they stopped the making at the Brewery in 2005.</p></li><li><p>The brewery was also accustomed to as a venue for many club nights until December 31st, 2006. </p><p><br/></p></li></ul>]]></description>

         <title>The First Synthetic Dye - Aashna Mathur</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<ul><li><p>On 26 August 1856, William Henry Perkin, at age 18, accidentally discovered the world's first synthetic dye, mauveine (aniline purple).</p></li><li><p>While oxidizing aniline with potassium dichromate, Perkin observed a black precipitate that could make a purple dye capable of coloring silk when processed.</p></li><li><p>The discovery of this dye revolutionized the dye industry and helped establish the modern chemical industry. Coal tar was seen as only a wasteful byproduct of burning coal, but now it could be used to extract aniline and make dyes, pharmaceuticals, perfumes, and saccharin.</p></li><li><p>Perkin patented mauveine in 1856, made a fortune off of it, and retired at the young age of 36 to focus on other chemistry research.</p></li><li><p>During his retirement, however, Perkin kept secretly improving his method of producing the mauveine. This led to even more significant advances in the mass production of synthetic dyes.</p></li><li><p>In 2012, Dr. Plater analyzed a <strong>physical dye sample</strong>. He applied <strong>liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry</strong> to look at its chemical structure and compared it to dyes used in 19th-century stamps.</p></li><li><p>Perkin’s original lab notebook from 1855-1856 still exists, showing detailed records of his experiments. These include purple fingerprints from his work with mauveine.</p></li></ul><p>--------------------------------------------</p><ul><li><p>Until the mid-1800s, all dyes came from natural sources such as insects, roots, or minerals. Producing them was difficult and expensive.</p></li><li><p>Mauveine is more casually known as mauve, which is a pale, bluish purple that sits between violet and pink.</p></li><li><p>This dye not only helped chemists but also helped in the medical field. German biologist Walther Flemming used it to color cells and study them under the microscope.          <description><![CDATA[<p>John Dalton spent is early life teaching publicly, switching over to tutoring to focus on his discoveries later in life</p><p><br/></p><p>He made a new atomic theory to explain chemical reactions and atomic theory which shaped our understanding of modern science</p><p><br/></p><p>Daltonism was a color blindness named after him, he was the first person to scientifically document color blindness, specifically red green color blindness</p><p><br/></p><p>Formulated laws of thermal expansion and gasses, as well as why gases didn’t separate due to density</p><p><br/></p><p>Made the theory of atoms, revolutionary for the time, and assigned atomic weight to 20 common elements&nbsp;</p><p><br/></p><p>Made formula like drawings of how he thought molecular structure of certain elements looked, also discovered how chemical compounds worked</p><p><br/></p><p>Studied meteorology, found out that the atmosphere was about 80 percent nitrogen, also studied math and languages</p><p><br/></p><p>Used ratios to formulate scientific laws that applied in chemistry of gasses - geometry to describe interactions</p><p><br/></p><p>Is said to be a little too experimental (not controlled enough) but his passion and discoveries make up for it.</p><p><br/></p><p>Was recognized later in life by Oxford and London Society scientific communities.</p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p><a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.britannica.com/biography/John-Dalton/Atomic-theory">https://www.britannica.com/biography/John-Dalton/Atomic-theory</a></p><p><br/></p>]]></description>
