Topic: During the age of colonization, as the British were colonizing america, they treated the Native Americans and their own colonists horribly, in the land that wasn't even theirs. The Native Americans were forced out of their own land for the British's use, and if not forced out, were used for cheap labor. America was even used as a dump for "extra" people, or the people in lower classes in that there was not enough room for in the European Countries. It was also used to rank in money for trade, because there was a law that colonists could only get their resources for high prices from the British, and there were extremely high taxes for the colonists to top it all off.
Reflect: An assignment that I completed based on the Age of Colonization was the "Overview of Colonization" paper and the "Overview of Colonization Reading" that went along with it. This assignment helped me to understand how the Native Americans and Colonists's Human Rights were violated when they were used for cheap labor, treated very unfairly like they were less human, and to rank in money with taxes and unfair laws and rules.
Connection: The human right that was being taken away during the age of colonization was the right that "We Are All Born Free & Equal". The Native Americans were kicked out of their homeland by new people that had a great advantage over them, and were forced to do work for these people. Some of these new people were colonists, who were also treated unfairly. They were highly taxed for goods that they originally created, and were only allowed to trade with their home countries, or "mother countries". Both of these groups of people were forced to do cheap labor and were treated very unfairly during this time.
Application to present day: To this day, Everyone is not being treated equally. Not in the same way as in the Age of Colonization, though. People are discriminated against and being denied their human rights based on their race, gender, religion, culture, etc. People are being treated differently and unfairly just because they are different than everyone else.

Topic: During the Age of Reason and the Age of Revolution, in many countries there were monarchies and different classes. There wasn't really a way to change the ruler of a monarchy, it was by family and generations. The rulers of the monarchies usually tried to control every aspect of society and believed the the divine right - the concept that God created the monarchy and the monarch represented God on earth and in human form. Many people got tired of having to be ruled over and not having a say, and decided to revolt. Some countries that had very large revolutions were France, Spain, and England.
Reflect: Some assignments that I completed based on the Ages of Reason and Revolutions were the "Spain's Empire and European Absolutism Two-Column Notes" paper, the "Causes of the French Revolution" chart, and the "English Civil War Notes" handout. These assignments helped me to understand how the people living in these countries during these times were violated of their right to have a say in who ruled them. This also showed me how cruel the Monarchs were to everyone during that time and how they deserved to be taken out of power.
Connection: During the Age of Reason and the Age of Revolution, a right that was heavily violated was "The Right to a Democracy", or the right for citizens to have a say in their government or who leads them. There were many monarchies with very cruel monarchs who abused their power greatly and ruled over their countries and cities unfairly and in ways that should have been stopped sooner. There was also a time during the French Revolution called the "Reign of Terror". This began because the people of France were tired of the monarchy and aristocracy and began a revolution, essentially led by a man named Robespierre. He eventually took power after the revolution was over and took things way out of proportion. Over 30,000 people ended up dead, including Robespierre himself.
Application to present day: Today, the right to a democracy is still violated for many people. Sometimes its because of race, religion, or gender, but a lot of the time because deprived or third - world countries don't have enough support or strength as a country to fight for a democracy, or are too scared they will just get killed by trying to revolt. These rights are obviously not being violated the same way they were in the 1700's and 1800's, though, and its not as violent or as bad as it was. This is still a human right that is being violated and needs to be supported more to be fixed.

Topic: During the Gilded Age, many workers did not have rights. There was a severe problem of child labor and horrible working conditions. Many women and girls had to work in factories with extreme amounts of dust and noise from machines. It was said to be very hard to breathe in these factories and many people became very, very sick. In these factories there were also many accidents involving workers getting hurt very horribly. People, mostly women workers, were extremely deprived of many human rights during this time.
Reflect: Some assignments that I completed based on the Gilded Age that help support my claims were the "Working Conditions & Labor Unions Stations" reading, and the "Factory Life - Read Like a Historian Activity" worksheet, which had a reading to go with it that helped me also. These assignments helped me to gain a better understanding of how in the Gilded Age, the workers barely had any rights and had horrible conditions, especially the women. They showed me how people working in factories had to live with large amounts of dust, that make it very hard to breathe and damaged lungs. These workers also had to live with large amounts of heat and noise, which made working even harder and damaged hearing. It also helped me to understand what some people thought about these conditions during this time based on primary - source documentations.
Connection: During the Gilded Age, a right that was being taken away a lot, and very obviously too, were “Workers Rights”. As I previously explained, workers had to deal with unbearable heat, noise, and dust, which caused a lot of sickness and health problems. Workers in these factories were mostly women, and on top of the horrible conditions, weren’t paid enough, had longer hours than should’ve been allowed, and weren’t treated respectfully or equally at all. They worked in a very dangerous environment and barely had a choice, which was also a violation of Workers Rights. These women and girls should’ve been paid more, had less hours, and had better conditions, but if they fought back, they could’ve gotten blacklisted - or would’ve never been able to work at another factory again. This was extremely unfair to the workers and should’ve been resolved sooner than it was, rather than been ignored by the public.
Application to present day: In our world today, workers rights are still heavily violated. Many people work for under minimum wage, for hours longer than should be allowed, just like the factory girls. Workers rights are mostly violated in foreign countries and aren't recognized very often. Many people have died from the horrible conditions. There has been a factory that collapsed and killed 800 people, many factory fires that have killed and injured many people, and this problem is still happening. These people are putting their lives in danger to get paid under a living-wage, just to try and survive and try to support their families. Workers rights need to be protected more and this problem needs to be fixed.

Topic: During WWII, something called "The Holocaust" happened. The Holocaust was a mass Genocide led by a man named Hitler. This targeted mostly Jews, and people who were different from the "Typical Person", someone with light skin and blonde hair. Many people were not treated equally during this time. Some people, just because of their religion or the way they looked, were put in jail, taken out of their homes, didn't have a safe place to stay, and weren't allowed to have their own personal belongings. This was extremely unfair and violated a lot of human rights, and should've been stopped sooner.
Reflect: An assignment that I completed based on WWII, and mainly the Holocaust, was the "Basics of the Holocaust: Reading Comprehension Questions" paper, and the article that went with it. This assignment helped me to better understand how bad life was for the jews during this time. They were discriminated against and treated horribly. They were taken out of their homes and had belongings taken from them. Put in jail and concentration camps, all just because of the way they looked or their race, religion and culture. It really opened my eyes to truly how bad the problem was, and how badly it needed to be fixed.
Connection: During WWII, and especially the holocaust, a right that was being taken away a lot was “The Right to Seek a Safe Place to Live”. The Jews were taken out of their homes, for one thing. Some had to hide out because their homes, cities, or towns weren’t safe thanks to the Nazi’s. Jewish people weren’t safe no matter where they went, they were always being hunted by the Nazi’s and being forced to go to concentration camps or even being killed, just because they were jewish. The Nazi’s leader, Adolf Hitler, had an idea that people with blonde hair, blue eyes, and fair skin were superior to everyone else, and even held the “Nazi Olympics” in 1936, trying to prove this concept by having only people of the Aryan race win. He was proven wrong when Jesse Owens, a Black man from North America, won four gold medals. You would think this would stop Hitler, but it did not. Around 6 million people ended up dead because of the Holocaust. This was two thirds of the population of Europe. It was one of the largest genocides in history.
Application to present day: Today, people are still violated of these rights. Some people live in neighborhoods that aren't safe, and have to be scared every day because they live in very dangerous areas. People are also so discriminated against that they have people coming to their homes to try and kill them or arrest them - but for no reason at all. For example, some people that fight for other human rights, have this right violated for them every day. There's also people who are living in countries that are in war, having attacks on their towns and where they live very often. They normally have to leave their homes to set out for somewhere safer, but it's a long trek, and this could easily be fixed. People not feeling safe or having a safe place to stay is a huge problem that needs to be fixed, and isn't recognized as much as it should be.
