All of the components of the science fair are new to me as this is my first year. Also because this is my first year I really appreciate being able to download all of the information so I can refer back to it as needed. It relieves me of the stress and nervousness caused by feeling like I'm going to forget the training and do something wrong. Thanks

The Ethics presentation offered very clear directions on how projects could be disqualified. It clearly states how misconduct with any project at any level of research will not be condoned. The description on the different types of plagiarism (i.e., direct plagiarism, self-plagiarism, mosaic plagiarism, and accidental plagiarism) was insightful and can guide students in their projects.

All of this information is new to me but what I found most interesting was the different types of plagiarism. I feel this is something that I could inform the students of in the beginning of the year, because I cannot assume they know what plagiarism is and the different kinds. I learned that there are two new categories this year, the civil engineering and robotics, and that there is no longer a team category. I am excited to finally know all this information because at my school only GT really does science fair but it is something I have always wanted to open up to my students. However, due to how busy the BOY gets, I am glad I was able to get this information over the summer so I can plan for it from the beginning.

Ms. Stephanie M.

This training has definitely been an eye opener. While I was completely aware of students participating in the competitive science fair arena, I had no idea how extensive the process truly was. With the ISEF and Scienteer protocol, one must be well aware of how to help your students not only begin, but also how to comply and progress to the next level. I think it was a great idea to expose this training long before it is implemented during the school year. I hope these resources will also remain available when they are necessary for instructional employment with my students. Thank you!!

However, I am nervously excited after seeing what students have accomplished at NSTA conferences and listening to the questions of my past 5th and 6th graders. It will be fun to watch them come up with solutions to their questions by their own thoughts, knowledge, and experimentation. My largest concern is the paperwork, guidelines, deadlines, and rules.

K. Smith
Garcia Middle School

Scienteer is fairly user friendly and contains everything you need to take you from the campus science fair, to district, and then to state.

This course gives the resources needed to support and review teachers from the beginning to the end of the process for project submissions.

Sharonda Brown
