One of the obligations of citizenship includes serving jury duty to make sure that everyone gets a speedy trial with an impartial jury of their peers (Amendment VI-6). Consider what might happen if Americans decided not to fulfill their civic duty. What could be a potentially negative consequence? Explain your answer.

If Americans decided not to fulfill their civic duty, there might not be enough people to have a full jury meaning that the amount of trials happening will drastically slow down, causing people to have their amendment right of speedy trial to be violated. This can cause a large amount of extra court cases due to people suing the government for having their amendment right violated.

A potentially negative consequence of Americans not fulfilling their civic duty as that there would be no jury to serve at a court case. When there is little to no jury, trials would take much longer to complete, causing a longer time for criminals to be judged and served justice. This also eliminates the opportunity to a speedy trial, which would violate 6th amendment rights.

If Americans decided not to fulfill their civic duty, it would be difficult, if not impossible to have a speedy trial as it would take a while to find jury members to partake in the trial. Also, without this civic duty, bias would be more likely, as if the jury members weren't made of random American citizens, and were just composed of a group of known people, they would more likely side with eachother; ending the concept of a "fair trial".
