From the material we've gone over today and the material we read from Shedler.

The amount of defence mechanisms we as humans employ weather consciously or unconsciously are fascinating. From the average every day, I am busy I'll deal with it tomorrow to the all-encompassing crippling effects of an obsessive compulsive disorder.

And the myriad of ways we reflect or reject the notions of the mind to try and scrape through in life. I must say I am finding this aspect of study fascinating.

I learnt about many defence mechanisms and how they can be used to help individuals in therapy to ease emotional pain and distress. This relates to Shedler's article as defence mechanisms can explore aspects of the self that are not fully known.

I learnt a range of new interesting things about defences that I didn't know before. That defences can be ego-syntonic and also ego-dystonic and are used for protection. An individuals ego-dystonic defences causes distress and impact our relationships with others and ourselves. I also found the information on 'The Hierarchy of Defences' interesting.
