I chose this netiquette because I feel that it is very common today. People are on social media and do not care about their spelling or grammar. This causes a lot of confusion and some people get aggravated if they don't understand what the other person is trying to say. It also shows up in schools when students are doing their class work.

So many people on social media and cell phones are using abbreviations and not everyone knows what they stand for. This can be a big problem, especially if someone interprets what you say the wrong way.
This netiquette is important to teach students because they should know how to spell and use grammar correctly. By people using bad grammar and spelling it is causing the students to do worse in these areas in school.

This netiquette is about people being mean or rude to other online. When people talk to others online they find it easier to say things that they would not normally say face to face. I chose this netiquette because it seems that online bullying has been on the rise. I feel that if you cannot get along with someone then you should just not be in contact with them or avoid conversation with them either online or in person.

This netiquette is important to teach because students need to realize that words can hurt other peoples feelings. If you do not have something nice to say than you should not say anything at all.

How I would teach good netiquette on grammar and spelling.

As a teacher grammar and spelling are very important. I would make sure I tell my students everyday that no matter who they are writing to it is important to use the correct format. I would correct the student every time that they spell something wrong or use wrong grammar. I would teach them to not get into the habit of taking short cuts because later on down the road grammar and spelling will be extremely important to get into college and get a good job.

How I would teach students to be courteous.

As teachers we are responsible for preparing students for the future. I believe that making them good citizens is also part of that. I would expect my students to be respectful to each other in class and teach them that being courteous online is just as important. I would explain to them that teasing and bullying is not okay and they should treat everyone the way that they would like to be treated in return. I think that this is just as important as math and reading.
