We go door to door to ask for a Posada (which is done by singing), and go in big parades with lots of people.

We eat tamales and drink ponche navideño.

Celebrated December 25.

You can go door to door singing Christmas Carols.

You can drink hot chocolate, and make Christmas cookies for an entire day, to then be eaten until March.

People can go all out and work on a carving ALL WEEK and carve a magnificent ostrich out of radish slices from countless radishes.

People eat buñuelos (sweet tortillas) and esquites (grilled Mexican street corn).

If you carve with anything else other than radishes (maybe for color, maybe for texture, etc. etc.) you will be disqualified from the competition.

It originated when merchants in el zócalo carved with radishes and sold them during the Christmas time, so people decided to make an entire radish carving contest, and then an entire national holiday.

Every year, the city dedicates a portion of land to grow extremely large radishes for the event.

This holiday is celebrated because of the birth of Jesus, but the traditions have changed a lot.

People think of it as a very jolly time of year, as it is a fun filled holiday in the middle of what seemed like the worst season, Winter.

You can bake as many Christmas cookies during this time, and no one can stop you. You can make cookies that last until August of the next year.

People usually put out milk and cookies for St. Nick on the evening of Christmas Eve, the day before Christmas. Sometimes, people even put carrots out for the reindeer on St. Nick's sleigh.

Not everybody celebrates this holiday, some people also celebrate hanukkah (also spelled chanukah), or Kwanzaa too! There are always other holidays out there!

It originated by the Spaniards trying to teach the native people about Christmas, and now it has turned into this.

Piñatas are a must-have for this fun celebration.

There are also aguinaldo and bolo that the hosts hand out to people at the end of the posada.

The celebration has 2 groups, and they symbolize Joseph and Mary, and the 2 groups ask for a posada (singing) for Joseph and Mary.

It is basically Mexican Christmas (I don't feel like this is a good enough fact, so here's a 6th fact).

They don't only celebrate this in Mexico! They celebrate this wonderful holiday in various other countries like Venezuela, Guatemala, Ecuador and Colombia, but the celebration is slightly varied between countries.
