1) Return to your poster from last session and re-immerse in your values, beliefs/beliefs of which you want to let go. Write down one of these that seems central. 2) Being informed by this belief, write a goal that you have for your work in this learning community. 3) Convert your goal to an clear, measurable outcome. 4) Use additional post-its to explain how the outcome meets each criterion for a SMART Goal.

I teach cultural anthropology, visual anthropology, and historical archaeology. It took me A LONG time identify as an anthropologist, or say I was an anthropologist. The discipline itself is rooted in "studying the other" and, in its founding, was used as a tool for colonization. I spent four years of graduate school actively encouraging my professors to change their syllabi to move beyond dead white men's theories. I'd argue for the inclusion of queer/bipoc/underrepresented contemporary scholars, thinkers and artists. One professor listened and changed her syllabus based on my recommendations. I get very, very angry at teaching anthropologists. Especially as they continue to occupy a seat of power and privilege, and do not expose their students to a wealth of literature and thought from incredible folks. It is a huge disservice to learners when educators do NOT teach queer theory in prehistoric archaeology, or share the incredible work of the Society of Black Archaeologists, for example. There was an article in 2019, arguing for the case to let anthropology burn, a battle cry to continue decolonization practices in the discipline. Instead of being angry, which is poisonous, I want to channel that righteous rage into an expansive classroom, expansive syllabus, and supporting expansive ways of thinking for learners.
