They believed common folks who passed would have to travel through the underworld (I think that&#39;s what they called it) and tears would just make the path more slippery. They would have altars (I think) with food and supplies for their lost ones to make the journey. This was merged with catholic holidays after the Spanish came and took over stuff.</title>
