While both texts show the scene well, the graphic novel depicts a deeper confusion that Santiago shows. During the night Santiago awakes from a reoccurring dream that he has had. He always wakes up before the end of the dream. The graphic novel shows how Santiago is confused on why he is having the same dream over and over again. His facial expressions give a deeper meaning to the text. Santiago's experiences make him a classical hero because the dream is hinting at a greater task that Santiago will have to achieve. The text hints at a task that Santiago will have to figure out without the dream telling him. He may have to learn new skills to achieve that.

While both of the texts show the climax clearly, the graphic novel shows the surprise and realization better. We can see that Santiago is surprised that he is seeing himself as the Soul of God. He is coming to terms with the new information and realizing that he can perform miracles. Overall, the graphic novel version communicates the situation in greater detail. In the normal text it says, "he, the boy, could perform miracles," (Coelho). The graphic novel version develops more detail in the situation with the illustrations that are being shown during that time.

Of the two comparisons, the graphic novel portrays a stronger, clearer representation of the text. This is because while reading the graphic novel, it shows illustrations that better explain the text. In the original text, it plainly states what ends the story, but in the graphic novel, it shows what truly is happening. It shows how Fatima, or the wind , is coming to him to show him how Fatima is here for him. The graphic novel shows how he wants Fatima. The graphic novel gives a deeper meaning to the word choice in the novel.

Santiago, a young man living in Spain, has to make a decision. His father has wanted him to be a priest for his whole life. Santiago has never really felt excited or interested in becoming a priest. He has to tell his father that he wants to become a shepherd so that he can travel. After a reoccurring dream, Santiago goes out to seek the treasure in Egypt that he has seen many times before in his dream.
