During Japanese Occupation , the Japanese took most of the food for themselves leaving little for the people. As a result  teenagers have to struggles with life during that time as there was lack of food
Source 1 tells me that teenagers do not have enough food to eat as the food was distributed unequally Source 2 also supports that there were food rationing going on that some people even decided to open black market and sell food to those who have the money to afford it and the teenager suffers from starvation
Source 3 tells me that  the poor in syonan-to have lesser food to eat and different races eat differently so different race of teenager were fed differently

The locals government school system changes as Japanese Language was taught and they NEED to learn about Japanese culture such as listening to their songs or even maintain their physical health.
The local communities that farm for the Japanese  are free from their supervision and some join in order to seek a safe haven from the Japanese Authorities.

But during the Japanese Occupation the students  that were teenagers at that point of time were forced to learn Japanese, but not only Japanese, they had to learn subject in Japanese.  The evidence is "they had to learn Japanese-maths, Japanese-science, Japanese-literature.
