In this hadith, the Angel Jibril (Gabriel) appears to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in the form of a man while sitting with his companions and asks several questions to educate them on the essentials of faith.

Islam

Jibril first asks the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) about Islam, to which the Prophet responds with the five pillars of Islam:

1. Declaration of faith (Shahada)

2. Performing prayers (Salah)

3. Fasting during Ramadan (Sawm)

4. Giving charity (Zakat)

5. Pilgrimage to Mecca (Hajj)

Iman (Faith)

Jibril then asks about Iman (faith). The Prophet defines Iman as belief in:

1. Allah (God)

2. His angels

3. His books (scriptures)

4. His messengers

5. The Day of Judgment

6. Divine predestination (Qadr), both good and bad

Ihsan

When Jibril asks about Ihsan, the Prophet explains it as:

Worshipping Allah as though you see Him, and if you cannot see Him, know that He sees you.

The Hour (Day of Judgment)

Jibril finally asks about the time of the Day of Judgment. The Prophet responds that neither he nor anyone else knows when it will occur, but he mentions some signs, such as when slaves give birth to their masters and when barefoot, destitute shepherds compete in constructing tall buildings.

1. Belief in Allah (God)

• Muslims believe in the oneness of Allah, the Creator of everything. He is unique, eternal, and has no partners, children, or equals. Belief in Allah involves understanding His absolute authority, mercy, and justice.

2. Belief in Angels

• Angels are spiritual beings created by Allah to carry out His commands. They are without free will and perform specific duties, such as delivering messages to prophets (e.g., Angel Jibril) and recording people's deeds.

3. Belief in Divine Books

• Muslims believe that Allah sent down holy scriptures to guide humanity. These include the Torah (Tawrat), the Psalms (Zabur), the Gospel (Injil), and the Qur'an. The Qur'an is the final and most complete revelation, superseding previous scriptures.

4. Belief in Prophets

• Allah sent prophets to convey His message to humanity. These prophets include figures like Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad (PBUH). Muhammad is the final prophet, and his teachings are meant to guide all of mankind.

5. Belief in the Day of Judgment

• Muslims believe that all people will be resurrected after death and judged based on their deeds. Those who have done good will be rewarded with paradise, while those who have done wrong will face punishment. This belief emphasizes accountability and justice.

6. Belief in Divine Decree (Qadr)

• Everything that happens, good or bad, is by Allah's will and knowledge. Muslims believe in predestination, understanding that while humans have free will, nothing occurs outside of Allah’s plan.

1. Doing good for others.

2. Doing good for others to the best of one's ability.

3. Performing the first two actions for the sake of Allah SWT.

The Story of Prophet Luqman, His Son, and the Donkey: A Lesson in Hikmah

Prophet Luqman, known for his wisdom (hikmah), once decided to teach his son an important life lesson. Together, they set out on a journey with a donkey. Along the way, they encountered various groups of people, each with their own opinions.

At first, Luqman rode the donkey while his son walked beside him. Some passersby criticized, saying, “Look at that selfish man! He rides comfortably while his young son walks.”

Hearing this, Luqman switched places with his son. Now, the son rode the donkey while Luqman walked. Soon, another group passed by and commented, “How disrespectful! The young boy rides while his father walks!”

To avoid further judgment, Luqman and his son decided to ride the donkey together. But yet again, they were criticized by others who exclaimed, “How cruel! Two people riding the poor animal is too much weight.”

Finally, Luqman and his son decided to walk alongside the donkey, leaving it unmounted. But even this was met with criticism: “What fools! They have a perfectly good donkey but aren’t using it.”

At the end of the journey, Luqman turned to his son and said, “My dear son, no matter what you do, people will always have something to say. True wisdom (hikmah) lies in making decisions based on what is right and just, not merely to please others.”

1. Shahada (Testimony of Faith):

Declaring and believing that “There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is His Messenger” (La ilaha illa Allah, Muhammadur Rasul Allah). This is the fundamental statement of faith in Islam.

2. Salah (Prayer):

Performing the five daily prayers at specific times of the day: Fajr (dawn), Dhuhr (noon), Asr (afternoon), Maghrib (sunset), and Isha (night). These prayers connect Muslims with Allah.

3. Zakat (Charity):

Giving a portion of one’s wealth (usually 2.5% of savings) to those in need. It purifies wealth and helps reduce inequality in the community.

4. Sawm (Fasting):

Fasting during the holy month of Ramadan, abstaining from food, drink, and sinful behavior from dawn to sunset as a means of self-purification and spiritual growth.

5. Hajj (Pilgrimage):

Performing the pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca at least once in a lifetime, if physically and financially able. It is a profound act of worship and unity among Muslims worldwide.

These pillars guide Muslims in living a life centered on faith, devotion, and service.

How to Achieve Khusyu'?

• Prepare mentally and physically: Purify intentions, perform wudu', wear clean attire.

•Understand the meanings of recitations.

•Choose a quiet and clean place for solat.

•Avoid distractions: Keep gadgets away.

The Story of Amir bin Abdillah’s Khushu’ in Prayer

Amir bin Abdillah Al-Tamimi was a devout man known for his intense devotion and focus (khushu’) in prayer. His humility and connection to Allah during salah were so profound that nothing could distract him, not even the most startling events.

One day, while Amir was praying in the wilderness, a snake crawled up his leg and slipped into his trousers. Anyone else would have panicked and immediately broken their prayer, but Amir remained calm and focused. His connection to Allah was so strong that he continued his prayer without flinching, fully immersed in the remembrance of his Lord.

When he finished the prayer, he gently removed the snake from his trousers and released it. Those who witnessed the event were astonished and asked how he managed to maintain his composure despite the snake’s presence. Amir simply replied, “The sweetness of standing before Allah made me forget everything else.”

This story is a powerful reminder of the level of concentration (khushu’) we should strive for in our prayers. Amir’s unwavering focus shows the importance of prioritizing our connection with Allah over worldly distractions, trusting Him in all situations.

History of Fasting

Fasting is a form of worship that has been practiced by many religions before the arrival of Prophet Muhammad SAW as the last messenger of Allah SWT. This practice is also done by Jews and Christians. Many verses of the Qur'an show that Prophet Moses, Prophet Jesus, Prophet Zakaria, and Maryam A.S also practiced fasting throughout their lives. Fasting is also practiced by Hindus and Buddhists as a way to control their spiritual strength and achieve "nibbana" (peace of mind). Allah says: يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ ٱلصِّيَامُ كَمَا كُتِبَ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ ١٨٣ O you who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you, as it was prescribed for those before you, so that you may become pious.
