Biography of A Sixteenth Century Romantic Poet, William Wordsworth

As a literature student, I am taught English through poetry, drama, and stories, which are classified as classic literature from the 16th to 17th centuries. I have come to know some talented poets, playwrights and writers from these early centuries. Among all the poets I admire, William Wordsworth especially caught my attention with his love for nature. William Wordsworth was born on April 7, 1770, in Cockermouth, Cumberland, in the Lake District of England. He was one of the well-known English Romantic poets and is famous for his nature poetry and his role in launching the Romantic Age in English literature alongside Samuel Taylor Coleridge. William Wordsworth was born as the second of five children. During his early childhood, his mother, Ann Cookson Wordsworth, passed away when he was eight years old. Meanwhile, he continued to live with his father, John Wordsworth, who died when he was thirteen. These early losses had a profound impact on him and are reflected in his poetry. He was sent to Hawkshead Grammar School, where he began writing poetry. Later, he attended St. John’s College, Cambridge, where he graduated in 1791.While studying at the Cambridge, Wordsworth set a tour in France. During his stay, he fell in love with a French woman, Annette Vallon. But the financial problems and the French Revolution forced him to return to England alone leaving behind Annette and their unborn child. In his famous poem, “The World Is Too Much with Us”, Wordsworth expressed how the industrial revolutions changed humanity to only focus on materialism and lose faith in nature. He settled in the West Country with his sister Dorothy and, in 1795, he met Coleridge. In 1798, Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge published "Lyrical Ballads," a collection of poems that marked the beginning of their Romantic era. He didn’t go back to France until nine years later. In 1802, he returned to France with his sister to meet Caroline, his daughter and to prepare Annette about his marriage to his childhood friend, Mary Hutchinson. Later that year, he married with Mary and they had five children together. Over the years, he had a hard life facing the deaths of two of his children. Despite these tragedies, he remained devoted to his works and continued to influence the literary world.William Wordsworth died on April 23, 1850, and was buried in St. Oswald’s Churchyard in Grasmere. His poems still influence English literature till this day, and he is remembered as one of the great figures of the Romantic movement. His works are admired for the great connection to nature and human emotion.Wordsworth admitted that he is the worshipper of nature. He did not describe nature causally like other poets but considered it as creation of God with Divine power. His poems remind me to cherish nature and to value and experience what nature gives us for free in this artificial world.

ps. Romanticism in poetry does not refer to "love" or "romantic". Instead, it emphasizes the value of individual thoughts, feelings, and imagination. It is a belief system that appreciates the beauty of nature rather than inanimate objects.

Biography of 16th president of the United States; Abraham Lincoln

Abraham Lincoln born February 12, 1809. For detail, he was born in a backwoods cabin 3 miles (5km) south of Hodgenville, Kentucky and was taken to a farm in the neighboring valley of Knob Creek when he was two years old. His parents, Thomas and Nancy Lincoln were farmers. His father Thomas Lincoln was the descendant of a waver apprentice who had migrated from England to Massachusetts in 1637. On June 12, 1806, he married Nancy Hanks. Thomas and Nancy had three children. Sarah, Abraham and Thomas who died in infancy. Their family faced financial difficulties, partly due to land disputes, which led them to move frequently during Aberham’s childhood. In December 1816, when Abraham was 7 years old, the family relocated to southwestern Indiana, where they hoped to improve their circumstances. The unhappiest period of his boyhood followed the death of his mother on October 5, 1818 when he was 9 years old.

In December 1819, before the onset of a second winter, Thomas Lincoln married Sarah Bush Johnston, who moved from Kentucky to Indiana to make a family with Thomas Lincoln. A widow with two girls and one boy of her own, she treated both sets of children as if she had borne them all, but she became especially fond of Abraham. Afterwards, Abraham referred to his stepmother as his “angel mother”.

Abraham’s childhood education was sporadic and limited to a few brief periods of schooling, for a total of fewer than 12 months in aggregate by age 15. He disliked the hard labor associated with his farm life. Nonetheless, he remained an avid reader and retained a lifelong interest in learning. He used to trudge for miles to borrow a book. However, he borrowed books from neighbors and from libraries, read voraciously including the Bible, Aesop’s fables, “Pilgrim’s progress ” by John Bunyan, “Robinson Crusoe” by Daniel Defoe and The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin. His stepmother, Sarah Bush Johnston encouraged his love of reading and learning. Then Lincoln keeps learning to write by himself. Lincoln often read by the light of the fireplace after a long day of physical labor. He also practiced writing by using any available material, including the back of a shovel, where he would write with a piece of charcoal. Anyway, his early experiences shaped his character, work ethic and moral compass, contributing significantly to his achievements as a lawyer, politician and ultimately the 16th president of the United States in 1861.

So, let’s talk about my interest and why this person to me. Honestly, I have lots of inspiring people in my life, especially my Dad. Abraham Lincoln is one of my inspirations for making a decision or how to respond about a mistake or someone’s mistake which is totally effective on him. He applied his sympathy and empathy while he faced a problem or while he made a decision. That is why he stands in second place as the best president of the United States. He is master at leadership ability, his dedication to keeping the United States together and for pursuing equal justice for all.

Let me describe some of his unforgettable speeches, decisions and quotations that I have read from “How to win friends & influence people”. It was 1863, during the civil war, Lincoln put a new general at the head of the army of the Potomac, and each one in turn McClellan, Pope, Burnside, Hooker, Mead-blundered tragically and drove Lincoln to pacing the floor in despair. Half the nation savagely condemned these incompetent generals, but Lincoln, with malice toward none, with charity for all, held his peace. One of his favorite quotations was “Jude not, that ye be not judged”. And when Mrs: Lincoln and other people spoke harshly of the southern people, Lincoln replied, “Don’t criticize them, they are just what we would be under similar circumstances”.

Another illustration: The battle of Gettysburg was fought over the first three days of July 1863. During the night of July 4, Lee began to retreat southward while storm clouds deluged the country with rain. When Lee reached the Potomac with his defeated army, he found a swollen, impassable river in front of him, and a victorious Union Army behind him. Lee was in a trap. He couldn't escape. Lincoln saw that. Here was a golden, heaven-sent opportunity, the opportunity to capture Lee's army and end the war immediately. So, with a high hope, Lincoln ordered Meade not to call a council of war but to attack Lee immediately.

But General Meade did the very opposite of what he was told to do. After that the water receded and Lee escaped over the Potomac with his forces. So, Lincoln was furious. In bitter disappointment, Lincoln wrote to Meade this letter..

My dear General,

I do not believe you appreciate the magnitude of the misfortune involved in Lee's escape. He was within our easy grasp, and to have closed upon him would, in connection with our other late successes, have ended the war. As it is, the war will be prolonged indefinitely. If you could not safely attack Lee last Monday, how can you possibly do so south of the river, when you can take with you very few-no more than two-thirds of the force you then had in hand? It would be unreasonable to expect and I do not expect that you can now affect much. Your golden opportunity is gone, and I am distressed immeasurably because of it”.

However, Lincoln didn’t send this letter to general Meade. It was found among his papers after his death. He was too furious about what Meade did but, I guess because of his sympathy and empathy, he decided not to send that letter. General Meade is the one who was actually faced with the battle in prison and Lincoln is only sitting in White House and order Meade to attack, he can’t see all of the crisis and problems that Meade and his army faced.

After I read about Abraham Lincoln’s biography, I got a habit of thinking from other people’s side, have to be good at sympathy and empathy, and how to make a good decision when faced with problems. When we have a problem, we should ask ourselves “ How would Lincoln handle this problem if he had it?”

She usually went her daughters house over the summer months and I was staying at my parent’s house. I had a lot of memories with my grandmom. When I was 6 years old, I fell into a well.Meanwhile, she look nervous and she tried to help me. Luckily, there was not much water in the well. In my opinion, he is perfect in every film.

From an early age, he developed an interest in acting. Then, he tried to start his career. In 1993, he received the first academy award nomination with “What's eating Gilbert Grape”.

In 1997, with the release of “Titanic”, he got a massive success. During that period, most of the girls adored Leonardo. Now, he has been acting for 35 years and he is still showing his love in the film industry by acting in films.

Beyond acting, he founded the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation in 1998.

As an oldest child, I got a lot of love from my dad. My dad is a man who always takes care of his family. He has experienced different kinds of difficulties in his life since he married my mom. He did a lot of work and he carried my mom. When I was born, my mom couldn't do the household chores. So,he did either his work or the chores. And he also washed my dirty clothes. He used to smoke before I wasn't born. But he hasn't smoked since I was born. When I become older, he still supports me. When I was 15 years old, my mom got into doubt because of her job. At that time, my father took care of everything. Although he has anger issues, he tries to control emotions in the family. As a teenager, sometimes I feel depressed and feel like I'm losing my future. Whenever I feel depressed, he always comforts me and gives me a lot of motivation to stand alone and strong. And then,he always respects all of my decisions and supports me anyway. And he lets me do what I want. In his life, he is always trying to fill the needs of his family. And he is good at management. And he gave me that management skill. He is such a kind of introverted person but he knows how to communicate with other people well. He reads a lot of books and sometimes he recommends some interesting books to me. For me, my father is a brave and noble man.

Today, I want to talk about my mother. But I don't know exactly about her childhood life. So let's start. My mother was born in 1979 in Ayeyarwady. From 1979 until 6 months later, her parents moved to Yangon. Her childhood life was so difficult. Her family wasn't a rich family. Her father was a gold designer, and her mother was a shopkeeper. She had two little brothers. But she wasn't the oldest child in her family. She had a big brother. But her brother died when he was 4 years old. When she was in fourth grade, she was helping with her mother's shop. Every day, when she comes back from school, she always cooks rice and curry for her family. And her parents couldn't afford her tuition. She had to study every class by herself at home. She was the only child in her family who was such a clever and hard-working student. When she was in Grade 10, she passed the matriculation exam within one year. Before the exam results were released, she started working in a factory. When she got her salary, she paid back her entire salary to her parents. From 1960 to 1957, she attended Dragon University. But she attended from a distance because she had just worked in a factory. In 1957, she graduated with a degree in history. She lived alone from 1958 until she got married. In 1962, she bore me. When I was 2 years old, my dad went to Singapore. And he lived in Singapore for about 4 years. Within 4 years, my mother had to become the leader of the family. After I was born, my mother changed her job. Her new job was as a shopkeeper. She was too busy with her job, but she can manage our business, the livelihood of the whole family, and also my education. She was a sharp and strong woman. She can do everything by herself. She can also handle family problems in her own way. She doesn't rely on my father. She relies on herself. And then she is not a big spender. But she always looks after our needs and fulfills them. Next, she didn't care about my father's salary. Because she can earn money on her own. By the way, my appearance takes after my mother. I'm always proud of my mother. I am so happy to have such a talented woman as my mother.

My mother who was born on August 25, 1968, is really like an angel who brings the light to my life. She really is the best human being who i have ever met. I always want to rush to her embrace whenever I feel sad. She never hesitated to listen to me, to give anything i wanted, to make me happy and never tired of smiling at me. She is the most important person of my life that anything can't replace.

Her scent, her voice and her embrace is what I remember most about her. I can't forget the way her humming while she was making breakfast for us and the way she let out soft giggle when dad had made some joke. One day when i felt down, i said her that i wanted to run away as i was tired of everything. In my surprise, She said nothing to me but she tightly hugged me between her arms and murmured that ' I love you'. There is no word that I could express how happy i was when that time and i couldn't help but cry almost all night as I was very grateful for having her and I couldn't dare to think about my life without her.

Throught out her life, she took all the responsibilities of her family. She showed her love to us by not only words but also work. She was the person who gave to her family but never took anything from us. She met my dad in 1988 and they got married in 1990. She raised four children, two sons and two daughters. She almost died when she gave birth to my brother who is four years older than me. She supported finance, love and warmth to her family until the day that she left from all her beloved people forever. That day is on March 1, 2023.

He was half-chinese and half-burmese, and raised in Yangon, a city full of history and culture. Even though he died before I was born, his story, as told by my parents, has inspired me. His achievements and standards continue to motivate me every day.

My grandfather was born and raised in Yangon during a time when education was considered as a luxury that only few could afford. But he excelled academically and received a full scholarship to Harvard University, proving his hard work. At Harvard, he not only excelled but also proved himself as an excellent student, earning the respect and admiration of both his colleagues and professors.

My grandfather's life was full of excellent education. After finishing his study, he returned to Burma, driven by a sense of duty to serve his country. He applied his knowledge and skills to various kinds of fields, making significant improvements that had a long-term impact on the community.

Although he is no longer with us, stories about his accomplishments and goals have been carried on through my family's generations.

My grandfather was born on January 12, 1935 ,in a small town. Growing up during the war, he learned the value of hard work and perseverance from a young age. His family, though poor, was rich in love and resilience. He had always been a curious and intelligent child.

In his early twenties, he had moved to the city in search of better opportunities. He had taken up various jobs before finding his passion . He had met my grandmother at a community dance, and they had quickly fallen in love. They married in 1955 and settled in a modest home that he had built with his own hands. After 2years, they was born my father.

One summer, when I was twelve, I had spent two weeks with my grandparents. It was during this time that I had learned some of the most valuable lessons of my life. Every morning, my grandfather and I had breakfast together before heading out to his workshop. He had shown me how to use various tools, patiently guiding my hands and explaining the purpose of each one.

Throughout my life, my grandfather's teachings have remained with me. He had taught me the importance of patience and the joy of creating something with your own hands. Whenever I faced challenges, I remembered his calm mind and wise words, finding strength in his example.

He was a pillar of strength, a source of wisdom, and a loving grandfather.

Elizabeth I, Queen of England was born in September 7, 1533, place of Placentia. She was the only child of King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn, his second wife. The whole life she's through was like a movie. Her mother was executed when she was only two years. Then she was declared illegitimate. But her father restored her to the line of succession when she was 10. He's person who believed that only men could the country well. That's why after he died in 1547, his youngest son, Edward VI ruled. In 1558 , She succeed to throne after her elder sister, Mary's death. During her rule, she was able to prove what her father believed wrongs. She faced foreign affairs, between the major powers of France and Spain. Then she was handled it well. She won the war against Spain. She was offered to marry by various countries. But she rejected through her life. Some people think that it was because of her parent's married issues. So she is the one and only Queen who didn't marry. Cuz of that she's sometime referred to as a " Virgin Queen. " She was died in March 24, 1603 ( age 69) in Richmond Palace. Then she was buried 1606, Westminster Abbey, London, United Kingdom. During she ruled, England became as a major European powers in politic , commerce and the arts. She's so famous that many books, series and movies have been produced about her. The golden age ( 2007 ) is my favorite movie that exhibits details about her. She's always my role model cuz she proved that how great the power of woman.
