         <description><![CDATA[<div>Doppler radar<br>The Doppler radar is a radar  tracking system using the Doppler effect to determine the location and velocity of a storm, clouds, precipitation, etc. <br><br>How is works: Radar emits a pulses of radio waves, and keeps track of the phase (shape, position, and form) of the pulses. Then, the radar measures the shift (change) between the original phase of the pulse and the echo of the phase. These shifts will show the distance a system is away from the radar itself. If there is a positive phase shift, then the system is moving away from the radar. If there is a negative phase shift, the system is moving away from the radar.<br><br>Units of measure: Distance found in phase shifts are measured by velocity. The units of measure for velocity are meters per second (academics/scientific circles) or in the U.S miles per hour.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Weather System: High and Low Pressure<br>High Pressure: Forms when air masses are cooled from above or below. When air is cooled, it descends. This leads to high pressure zones. Due to the low pressure surrounding the high pressure zone,  wind develops and flows from high pressure to low pressure areas. The rotation of the Earth deflects the wind flow to the right in the Northern Hemisphere. This causes the wind to flow in a clockwise direction around the high pressure zone. <br><br>Effect on Weather: As th air descends, it begins to dry.  This dry air brings clear weather and sunny skies in the area around the high pressure system. <br><br>Low Pressure: Forms when air masses are heated and air rises. Leads to low pressure zones.  Low pressure systems have areas of lower pressures in their middle.  Wind blows toward the lower pressure, and air rises in the atmosphere where the wind and low pressure meet. As the air rises, water vapor condenses and forms clouds and precipitation. Due to the rotation of the Earth and the Coriolis Effect, winds of a low pressure system swirl counterclockwise north of the equator and clockwise south of the equator.<br><br>Effect on Weather: when the air rises and cools, it condenses. This creates clouds and precipitation.  Low pressure sytems bring cloudy , rainy weather.</div>]]></description>
