The theme I found in Starfish was, to accept people for who they are on the inside and not the outside also known as looks. I think this was a good theme for starfish because people bully Ellie because she is fat they are basing it off of looks and not personality.

This book has a very meaningful title. Ellie used to make herself feel small, but after talking with Mrs. Woods from a lot of sections, Ellie accepted herself she learned to take up all of the space she needs and become a STARFISH.

Ellie was bullied at home and at school because she was fat so she made herself feel smaller. All up until she started to accept herself for who she is. She gained the strength to speak up to all of the bullies including her mom, siblings, classmates, and other citizens. It was tough but she did it. By telling them about how it makes her feel and blocking them out she finally got rid of all of the bullies. Well everyone but herself so Ellie started to accept herself for who she is, So she started to take up all of the room she needs and be a big and beautiful starfish.

At the beginning of the book, Ellie was shy, ashamed, kind. She hated her body she was ashamed because people made fun of her body because she was bigger or plus-sized. But she changed a lot! Near the middle is where she started to change. She started to stand up to the bullies. By the end of the book she learned to love herself way more she was finally ok with being plus-sized. Just like a caterpillar morphing into a butterfly.

I loved Starfish. It was interesting, and inspiring. Nothing in this book had me bored or bothered. It had a lot of surprises in the beginning, middle, and end. I have a few questions for the author. First, how did you come up with the story did you go through this or maybe someone you know? Next, how did you come up/ think of all of these details, I could visualize the whole book based off of details? Finally, how long did it take to write and how did you think of setting it up like a poem?
