Bootlegging became popular, which was the illegal production, sale, and transportation of alcohol. One of their biggest effects on the time period was their creation of speakeasies, which were "secret", illegal establishments that sold alcohol. Later in the 1920's, they expanded into entertainment, and they became some of the first places that were welcoming to women and people of color.
