         <description><![CDATA[<div>1. transcontinental- across the continent. the transcontinental railroad stretched a crossed the continent of north america.<br>2.they were poor,they were smart,hard workers,they were&nbsp; not selfish,they were victims.<br>3. 1869 transcontinental railroad complete. 1882 congress&nbsp; responded to the anger by passing the Chinese exclusion act.<br>4.&nbsp; to move west and get money because they didnt have farms or land.<br>5.they needed money so they moved west and worked on the railroad because they were too poor people got jealous&nbsp; of them so they were treated unfairly . also they had a contest and won. then they got enough money to open stores congress responded to anger by passing the Chinese exclusive act&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

Fourty-Niners: a gold seeker in the California gold rush of 1849<br>2.&nbsp; Worked in large groups, lived in small Leakey tents. food was scarce, so they tried making sourdough. They lived in mining tents in towns. They had a hard and lonely life. Not many women lived in the camps.<br>3. 1848-Gold was discovered in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California, 1849-The gold rush started!<br>4.for gold.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>Oregon Pioneers</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>1. Yoke: a wooden frame that fastens around a animals neck.<br>2. The woman cared for the sick, cooked, washed clothes and set up tents. Everyday the work was hard. The men got diseases.&nbsp;<br>3. In 1843 a thousand people in Missouri organized a wagon train headed for Oregon. In 1845 close to 10000 Americans had traveled the Oregon trail. In the 1840 s many Americans began catching " Oregon fever".<br>4. They were there for a chance of a new life.<br>5. Many people from Iowa traveled to Oregon to start a new life. Along the way they faced many challenges and difficulties. The woman cooked, cleaned and washed clothes, while the men hunted. In the end they made it to Oregon.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>1.missionaries-Representatives of a religion who try to get other people to adopt that religion.<br>2.very religious they make their own laws they planned out the city they left massages in buffalo sculls. They were forced to move many times. First to Ohio, then to Missouri, then finally to Illinois. They became really powerful. Eventually they selected the territory of Utah (The Great Salt Lake). Organized their own political party and wouldn't be forced from their homes again,<br>3.1830-Their church was started.<br>June27,1844 a mob broke into the jail and killed an inspiring and imprtant Morman preacher-Joseph Smith-and his brother. 1846, The mormans left Illinois and fled to Nebraska &nbsp;<br>4.for religious freedom to make their own&nbsp; church.<br>5. The Mormons were very poor settlers. They wanted to move west for religious freedom. Their first leader was named Young Joseph Smith, he said that god had told him to build a new kingdom. They stopped from town to town.&nbsp; They moved from Ohio, Missouri, and finally, Illinois to a town called Nauvoo. Their leader was killed in jail and a new one was elected. Then they moved west and settled by the Great Salt Lake. They stayed there and they planted crops and made dams in mountain streams to water their plants to&nbsp; make a well planted city. Then their missionaries in Europe gained followers to help spread the Mormon religion. The Mormons settled in the territory finally, they would not be forced to move from their homes again.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Nez Perce [Nehz-pur-SAY]</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>1. Nothing :[<br>2. They had nose piercings [ thats why they are called the Nez Perce's] they were native americans that lived in eastern oregon, north western idaho, and south eastern washington.&nbsp;<br>3. in the 1840s settlers began farming on Nez perce land. By the 1870s, settlers and gold miners wanted this land. In the 1830's there was an estimated 6,000 Nez Perce.<br>4. they were there because of the Nez Perce War.<br>5. The Nez Perce were native Americans who live in Oregon, Idaho, and Washington. Cheif Joseph was the leader in Oregon who they never saw again.</div>]]></description>
