Even though it is rare, tornadoes can still occur in the winter. Tornadoes can also occur in cold areas like Alaska. Even though the state of Alaska has a yearly average of 0 tornadoes they can still occur occasionally. Tornadoes normally require warm humid air however their are tornado risks all year long. In winter tornadoes are usually associated with strong frontal systems. In fact scientists say that tornadoes in winter tornadoes can be deadlier because they tend to move faster. Therefore the United States is at risk for tornadoes all year long.
https://www.livescience.com/3309-tornadoes-winter.html
http://www.ustornadoes.com/2013/06/26/u-s-tornadoes-that-occur-outside-the-u-s-the-continental-u-s-that-is/

Scientists predict hurricanes by analyzing "seasonal probabilities and the track of a current hurricane." What this actually means is that scientists look at hurricanes that seam to occur annually every year. They can even dig further into to the data and see hurricane patterns in a certain period of time (week, month, season, etc.) As well as, they can track current radar hints that suggest a hurricanes coming. Scientists can take the "shaky" weather as a hurricane warning.

These predictions can be made years in advance because of the often reoccurrences of seasonal hurricanes. As well as, many scientists state that having these predictions being made in advance allows for the more preparation. Which then would allow for overall better safety of those in hurricane prone areas. While making these predictions, scientist analyze sea levels and how that can also effects a hurricanes great impact. These predictions can ensure more safety making them fatal to have.

http://web.mit.edu/12.000/www/m2010/teams/neworleans1/predicting%20hurricanes.htm

https://www.wired.com/2010/11/hurricane-forecasts/

Hurricanes are named after people to reduce confusion and complications. People did not start naming hurricanes to the 1950's and everyone found this description of the hurricanes easier then just some numbers and letters. People also found it easier to spread the news of a hurricane if it was named after a person. Finally it makes it easier for people to not get confused by the different storms hitting the U.S or other nearby countries. Tornadoes and thunderstorms are not as special however. Tornadoes do not receive a name but that does not mean they are not dangerous because other huge systems do not get names. In the end scientists named hurricanes not because they all believe tornadoes are more dangerous, but because they want it easier for people to communicate about hurricanes.
https://oceanservice.noaa.gov/facts/storm-names.html
https://www.cnn.com/2016/08/22/weather/weather-naming-storms/index.html

Scientist can predict a hurricane in many different ways. One way is that scientist can tell of the speed of the wind the storm has and they will compare it to the hurricane categories. Another way of predicting a hurricane is scientist can tell when a smaller storm like a tropical storm gets bigger and will eventually evolve to a hurricane. The length and amount of time the scientist can have to make the predictions is after a tropical storm is formed and scientist will watch what it does and how it moves.
http://web.mit.edu/12.000/www/m2010/teams/neworleans1/predicting%20hurricanes.htm
https://www.seeker.com/how-far-ahead-can-we-predict-the-weather-1771226392.html

Once these thunderstorms collide they make a bigger storm and the clouds start rotating around and around till it reaches the ground. Once tornadoes reach the ground it can be very dangerous.

Tornadoes can happen in the winter. When they happen they are more dangerous than a normal tornado in Spring or Summer. This is because they have a great chance of happening in the dark. Since during the winter the sun rises at six thirty A.M. and sets at five thirty P.M. there is less day time with light. On Top of them happening in the dark they also move a lot quicker in the winter. Alaska has the lowest amount of tornadoes recorded since 1950.

Hurricanes have specific human names so that humans always remember. If there were no names for any of the hurricanes, then it would be very difficult for humans or even Meteorologist to reference a specific storm. During a major storm it is a lot safer for people to communicate using the name of the storms. This helps people stay safe and protected from the harsh weather conditions nearby. Therefore, Hurricanes having names is very helpful to a lot of people. However, tornadoes do not have any names because we don't have to worry about the same tornado happening over and over again. People don't have to mention tornadoes as much as they do Hurricanes. If someone were to reference a tornado they wouldn't need a specific name for a person to recall. https://www.themarysue.com/why-we-name-storms-other-facts/

In the Atlantic Basin there were 12 hurricanes in one year. In the Eastern Pacific Ocean there were 14 hurricanes in one year. Depending on the year, either many or no hurricanes can happen. It is too difficult to tell how many hurricanes occur around the world, but usually the most hurricanes happen in the same area all the time. Hurricanes carry individual supercells, which are rotating thunderstorms. All tornados need thunderstorms to form. Also, hurricanes create wind shear, which is an abrupt change in wind speeds. These winds can create swirling air, which then create a tornado. Hurricanes can form tornados in specific ways.

http://scienceline.ucsb.edu/getkey.php?key=1086

https://www.livescience.com/37235-how-hurricanes-spawn-tornadoes.html

Every year, tornadoes tear through the center of the United States, often ripping towns up with them. Some years the destruction is incredible. The Joplin Tornado of 2011 destroyed $2.8 billion worth of property. That same year, there were 358 tornadoes between the days of April 25th and April 28th, killing 325 people. So why do people live in tornado alley when it can be this dangerous and leave so much damage? One recent study shows that living through a tornado doesn’t change their thoughts of any chances of injury compared to other peoples. They don’t learn from their mistakes. https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/this-might-be-why-people-dont-move-away-from-tornado-zones-343488/

There are typically around fourteen hurricanes in a year. A hurricane first forms when as a tropical storm. Then moisture is evaporated into the air and gets it from the surface of the water. This will cause the hurricane to get bigger and powerful. In order for a tornado to form, there has to be warm and moist air as well as cool and dry air. When those both collide, it gets very powerful and windy and will form into a tornado.

http://www.cotf.edu/ete/modules/sevweath/swhoware.htmlwww.weatherwizkids.com/weather-tornado.htm

//scienceline.ucsb.edu/getkey.php?key=1086

http://www.cotf.edu/ete/modules/sevweath/swhoware.html

Some reasons why they are more dangerous is because they are not in the tornado season and, most snow tornadoes occur at night so it would be very difficult to see. These winter tornadoes can also be very dangerous because the tornado moves a lot faster. Alaska is actually the state that has had the lowest amount of tornadoes ever.
Tornadoes can not form in winter time. Since they usually form from warm air and humid air it wouldn’t be likely for them to form in weather like this. Out of all 50 states, Alaska is the state that has the lowest number record of tornadoes. There have only been four recorded tornado events since 1950, the last was on August 25, 2005. So Alaska is not a tornado state, and experiences a tornado every 15 years.

Hurricanes have specific human names so that humans always remember. If there were no names for any of the hurricanes, then it would be very difficult for humans or even Meteorologist to reference a specific storm. Therefore, Hurricanes having names is very helpful to a lot of people. However, tornadoes do not have any names because we don't have to worry about the same tornado happening over and over again. People don't have to mention tornadoes as much as they do Hurricanes. If someone were to reference a tornado they wouldn't need a specific name for a person to recall. https://www.themarysue.com/why-we-name-storms-other-facts

The reason why people live in Tornado Alley when they know it is dangerous is because the property in Tornado Alley is much less expensive and it's more affordable than most other areas. Along with affordability issues, the land in Tornado Alley can sustain farms a lot better with how fertile it is. With these facts, most storm shelters are the basements of people's homes with some modifications. In the end, people choose to live in tornado alley because of their background and their financial state.

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/05/22/us/shelter-requirements-resisted-in-tornado-alley.html
https://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/climate-information/extreme-events/us-tornado-climatology/tornado-alley

A method for prediction is ensemble forecasting in which they run many simulations at once in order to predict all possible paths a tornado may fallow.

Hurricane predictions fall into two categories: seasonal possibilities and the track of a current hurricane. Scientists can predict the total of named storms and their breakdown by intensity. They can also predict wind speeds and intensity for constant winds. Named storms are usually predicted based on former occurrences and current measures of factors in the climate. Once a hurricane has developed, it can be tracked. Scientists can usually forecast its path for 3-5 days in advance.

http://web.mit.edu/12.000/www/m2010/teams/neworleans1/predicting%20hurricanes.htm
