1. Swamp Patrol- Roger Blum, 1966
- Painting 1 and painting 2 were both created in The Vietnam Combat Art Program which was created in 1966. Swamp Patrol however, was created to show people what the war looked like through the solders eyes. That way, people can see what hardships the solders had to go through. The piece is actually one of the most famous pieces during The Vietnam War. Sadly, no one knows where it is because The Vietnam Combat Art Program ended in June 1966. This art piece relates to The Vietnam War by the artist (Roger Blum) showing the solders in the jungle and on how the solders are also inside of some sort of river or swamp. The reason why The Vietnam Combat Art Program is so special is because unlike other art programs, The Vietnam Combat Art Program dedicated there hard work just towards one subject, The Vietnam War.

Link: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.wearethemighty.com/articles/soldiers-created-hauntingly-beautiful-paintings-vietnam-war/amp

Citation: We Are The Mighty.

1. No Place To Hide - Lachlan Irvine, 1967
NO PLACE TO HIDE

"Silent and still, the night surrounds

The weary warrior's bed,

While the tumult of the killing grounds

Rages inside his head.

Though long ago and far away,

War spreads its fingers wide;

He feels its fiery touch each day,

Sleep gives no place to hide."

-Lachlan Irvine

-Meaning: All of these soldiers are fighting at night and there is no silence and no place to hide.

-Figurative Language: "The weary warrior's bed, While the tumult of the killing grounds." When I hear this, I think of a dark, broken, ripped room with no nice things in it. Which tells me that the war was intense for all people. A metaphor that is in this poem is "Silent and still, the nights surrounds The weary warriors bed." This means that war changes people and it will always stay with them. Even though the war is over, it's never gonna be over for them in their own minds throught their entire lives.

-This is how the poem relates to the Vietnam War: This poem relates to the Vietnam War because it tells us how the solders got peace for their country but not for themselves. "He feels its fiery touch each day, Sleep gives no place to hide." This tells us how scared the solders actually were all the time even though they always look perfectly fine in our eyes.

Link:
http://lachlanirvine.tripod.com/poetry/id13.html

Citation: Irvine, L.
