Being able to offer learners placement opportunities is vital to this and includes traditional undergraduate and post graduate placements, but also apprenticeship and T Level opportunities.
HEI’s frequently report a shortfall of clinical placements, and with the increase in demand and new training courses being established, the Integrated Care System (ICS) must ensure organisations are able to provide placements that both meet demand, and maintain and enhance the quality of learning.

Traditionally each organisation allocates placements within their own services and teams. Data analysis shows variation with regards to how placements are allocated and the number of placements offered by different services.

The Sussex Placement Management team have worked with organisations across Sussex to introduce the new Health Education England Placement Capacity Model to ensure current and future demand can be met. The model takes into account the size of the workforce and the service provided in establishing the overall capacity for learners within the service. The Placement Management Team is also working to support the continuation of quality placement experiences across Sussex.

The Sussex AHP Faculty was set up in Nov 2020. AHP Faculties have been implemented nationwide, to improve the co-ordination of workforce activity across Integrated Care Systems. They have a focus on supply, education and training to secure the current supply pipeline and future growth of the AHP workforce.

We have 40+ members from across Health and social care, Health Education Institutions, Primary Care, CCG's, and Workforce. The Faculty meet every 6 weeks and we have working groups that meet in between to drive our workstreams forward.

Our work aligns to national, regional and Sussex priorities and is agreed by the Sussex AHP Council and Sussex people committee.

Members are responsible for contributing to the overall work of the Faculty, being a link between the Faculty and the AHP's they represent, and disseminating information back to the AHP's in their organisation. -AHPs have the lowest ethnic diversity of the three largest NHS clinical workforce groups when compared with nursing and medicine.
- Ethnic diversity within the SE AHP workforce is lower than regional demography
- AHPs have lower levels of ethnic diversity in all professions at senior levels (AfC 8a and above)

Our EDI working group to focus on reducing inequalities and to promote opportunities for our AHP Workforce. This portfolio can be updated and added to throughout your career as you progress your knowledge and skills. This career portfolio tool is looking to help implement the domains of the AHP Support Worker Competency, Education and Career Development Framework and to support healthy and constructive career conversations.

Each section has a place to record evidence of your skills and knowledge to meet the objective as well as an opportunity to record potential areas for development. It is anticipated that these areas can be discussed as part of your yearly appraisal to ensure you are meeting career specific objectives and development as well as annual objectives.
