         <description><![CDATA[<p>In his 'Exposition du système du monde' Laplace was not only interested in the evolution of the solar system, but also studied its formation. Following the discoveries of nebulae made by William Herschel in England, Laplace thought that the gravitational collapse of a nebula could have led to the formation of the Sun and that material orbiting the Sun could condense to form a family of planets. This theory naturally explained that all the planets orbit the Sun in the same direction (from west to east) and that their orbits are in the same plane</p>]]></description>
