I enjoyed how Simone explained how he got into his career with tokidoki, it made me think about how if you continue to try hard enough you can really do anything.
He did a great job explaining exactly how he makes his characters and explaining his techniques. I thought it was interesting that he says he keeps a sketchbook open in his home and as he thinks of an idea he'll go over and draw a sketch of it. I thought it was cool that he also gets ideas from real life things like seeing cacti in the desert where he used to live. He made a very good point toward the end of the series where he says that it's cool to draw out and illustrate your own character on paper and desktop, but its sometimes even better to be able to physically hold a figure or product that is your character.

Learning about Simone Legno and the career had had with Tokidoki really inspired me. Really surprised when they revealed that he is actually Italian and not Japanese. He made some very good points as to being an artist. The one that sticked out was that he draws with whatever he has, either a pen or pencil. Then when he gets home he redraws it better. That's something I already do and I do believe it works the best.

I'm familiar with the brand, I collect toys, so how could I not be familiar with Tokidoki. While I don't own any personally, they have a huge following I was surprised to find out that Simone was from Rome despite his style having a huge influence from Japanese comics and broadcasst animated series.

I think the coolest part of this is we seem to work very similarly. From the way we "build" our illustrations all the way down to having paper and a pencil readily available in many rooms of my house.

I really enjoyed how he spoke about growing your own design in comparison to what we are taught in school. It's a really cool point to have been made to recognize school to be the tools that we get to implement with our own unique style.

My sister collects Tokidoki figures, so I am familiar with them before. I did not realize how much goes into these characters, they all have their own stories, kind of like the Sanrio characters.
I like how he has a story for each series; I'm the same way thats why i got into comic writing. As well as making cute characters but not just for kids, adults can enjoy cute things not just the dark and edgy.

I personally liked the way he explained how he starts off a drawing. He could be anywhere, at any time, and get inspiration. He doesn't require having a sketchbook or pad. He simply uses a notebook and a pen/pencil if that's what he has with him. He pretty much states that everyone has their own ideas and to grow from there. We are taught certain things in school but we also have to design our own style to be noticed.

I really find it interesting that in the beginning of his entire process, he draws on paper first and scans the image to bring it into a program such as illustrator to trace over. A lot of the art I make is digital now a days so I just sketch on the computer but I think scanning or taking a picture of an image and tracing it could be a really neat way to look over your idea once more and fix anything you might find giving it a second look over before doing a final drawing.
