There will always be conflict in society, even if the conflict is big or small, conflict will always be present. Looking back into history, war and economy were the majority of the conflicts that happened and were focused on. War and Economy, I would say that these are very big and impactful conflicts to have in society, these things caused different countries/societies to crumble and fall. Even with the societies that have been able to recover and strive after these conflicts, we still see conflicts present today. Nowadays, times have changed, the common conflicts aren’t as big and/or impactful as war and economy. As stated earlier, it doesn’t always have to be big conflicts, even the small conflicts in society are inevitable. A lot of factors will always contribute to the problems/conflicts in society today. The society today has changed and developed making conflict inevitable because of the different opinions, disagreements, feelings, etc. To put it in shorter words, conflict in society is inevitable because society isn’t perfect and it will never be, with all the imperfections it may have, conflicts can occur.

With all the conflicts happening in today's society, whether it be the war between Russia and Ukraine, Killings, Racism, Equality, Justice, etc. The results of these conflicts can result in both positive or negative changes in society. Starting with the obvious, the war between Russia and Ukraine, this will have a negative change in society. Whoever loses or is affected the most by the war, will experience a lot of calamities, problems, and will crumble as a country and society. With the possible damages and hardships they may experience, they will have a hard time trying to rebuild and return to the striving state they were in. There is even a small possibility that they won't be able to return to the striving/successful state they were in, which will have a lasting impact on the country/society because they won’t be able to progress, develop and strengthen. Moving on, the impact the conflicts of Racism, Equality, Justice, etc. has on society can actually result in a positive change in society. Seeing the amount of people who want to fight for change in these certain conflicts, shows us that change is possible and can happen. With the change they’re fighting for, it will have a positive lasting effect on society because it will allow society to grow and develop to become better for the future.

A lot of the conflicts that have happened in the past, as we know, were mostly wars (in classroom discussions). In recent years, there haven’t been prominent, dangerous, and impactful wars, but the Russia and Ukraine war has caught a lot of attention and caused a lot of damages and challenges to society. With that, conflicts today that have similarities or parallelism with conflicts in the past are/is the war. Aside from the obvious similarities/parallelism such as: violence, destruction and chaos, there are other similarities that can be seen. The economy and different relationships between the world/countries have been ruined and/or affected by the war. The obvious would be the gas prices, because of the supply Russia and Europe has, a lot of the world has been affected by the shortage or decrease in supply of gas. Like the wars in the past, the relationships between countries were affected, and now at the present, we can see that the war of Russia and Ukraine have the same effect.

As young members of society, we must use the current knowledge we have from history, continuously educating ourselves, and looking at the bigger picture. With these insights, we can take initiative to fight for what we believe (is right), using the proper knowledge and having the proper mindset about our beliefs and surroundings will allow us to make a bigger impact when taking initiative. In the past, countries were divided and this was seen/shown through the Cold War and Proxy Wars. The split that was created between these countries can also relate to how us, the Philippines, was divided last election season. There were a lot of conflicts between our fellow people, the sense of unity and respect was lost and it shows easily that splits and division can happen in our country. So, as young members of society, understanding and being aware of the issues will help us grow, develop and strengthen to be able to contribute in addressing the societal conflicts at present.

Conflicts, this is something that has become normal in all of our everyday lives. We experience conflicts personally (friends and family) or from an outsider's perspective (public/global issues). No matter how big or small the conflict is, it will always be a whole experience, we will go through the whole process. And in the end, they (conflicts) will always have an outcome, and it’s not always a negative outcome, it is very possible to have a positive outcome. But, it won’t magically happen, the situation of conflict must always be handled properly. Obviously, if the conflict is handled poorly, then the outcome will be negative and have its effects. On the other hand, if the conflict is handled maturely and properly, then the outcome will have its positive effects. The lesson that conflict teaches us is to always be understanding, aware and knowledgeable when handling conflicts or making decisions. It allows us to obtain the needed skills to have the positive outcome when handling certain conflicts.

Conflicts, in this context, are battles or wars between armed forces. Generally, in the past the main problem was war, war was something that included or had conflicts. These conflicts weren’t always the biggest, sometimes it was small things that were brought in by the wars. At some point, the conflicts weren’t caused by the different wars, they would just happen because of different ideals and opinions. In this photo essay, I wish to dive deeper and understand the cause and importance of conflicts, and how we, the young members of society, can handle conflicts we may encounter.
