Not only that but both places had allies that would help them if a hot war would happen. there will be a lot of casualties if they had a hot war so making it stay cold would have been better. Its also a cold war because there is still conflict. It started because after WW2 Korea was divided into 2 parts South Korea and North Korea The USSR took control of North Korea and the USA took control of South Korea. The south was anti communist and the north was communist. Both wanted to unite Korea once again but under their own rule. Since they wanted that they sent troops to try to unite and take control of each other but in the end it didn't work until the war (well kind of). If it wasn't for these the war would have never happened.
8/15/1948- South Korea is established. Less then a month later North Korea is established. This is important because if it weren't for the separate places then there would be no war
6/25/1950- A massive artillery barrage from the North signals the beginning of the Korean War this is supper important because it strikes the beginning of a huge war that killed a lot of people
9/12/1950- After months of fighting North korean troops reach their farthest point in advance.

North Korea fell into poverty after the war.

That is like the cuban missile crises because like the korean war the missile crises had the USSR and the USA fighting with the mind set of trying to make more people go to there side using their allies and gaining their trust. this connects to the present big time because both south and north korea have conflict and the war may continue to become one in the future and  I really believe it will. Only a matter of time. I think this because it says on history "Despite efforts at diplomacy under South Korea’s current president, Moon Jae-in, the stark differences between the two Koreas were on full display in the run-up to the 2018 Winter Olympic games Even as South Koreans began welcoming athletes from around the world to the Winter Games, Kim Jong Un’s regime in the North put on a military parade in Pyongyang’s historic Kim Il Sung square." that's really recent and i believe something like this will make the war start again.
