I have always found the girl's eyes so piercing in this photograph, it feels as if she is staring into your soul.  Sharbat Gula was photographed in a Pakistani refugee camp  in 1984 by a National Geographic photographer. The photographer found her years after the iconic photograph was taken. Her story is definitely worth the read.

The brutality of an execution on a city street, by the Chief of the National Police is captured in this simple frame - the brazenness of the shooter to do it in front of the media is shocking. 

The photo was used in anti-Vietnam war campaigns across the globe, and thirty years later Adams is quoted saying "still photographs are the most powerful weapon in the world.”

Eddie Adams won a Pulitzer for the photograph, and he continued to work in photography until his death in 2004, educating young photojournalists at his workshops.

Whatever she may have felt, this image felt incredibly powerful to me. While there are many complicated facets to the #MeToo era, this photo symbolises the courage of those who are often 'put on trial' and re-victimised in the process of seeking justice.

When it comes to powerful imagery, I am always reminded of the old adage, "A picture is worth a thousand words." This couldn't be more true in the case of the image below, captured by photographer and journalist Kevin Frayer. This image speaks volumes of hunger, displacement, poverty, and crowds of people living in fear and uncertainty. To view it from the comfort of one's own home stirs great feelings of discomfort, compassion, anger and deep sadness. The use of B&W imagery is often powerful when used correctly. I believe this is photographic journalism at its best. It is an image that cannot be unseen.

I'm posting this photo because it was extremely emotive, was picked up immediately by multiple news media from our social media posts on our charity page, I was interviewed at my house the following day and the coverage resulted in a fundraising exercise that raised over $8,000 for the dog (pictured and the 2 others rescued from the property). We have never raised such a large amount in a single campaign before.

I took this photo at the vet the same evening that we rescued him. At this time we weren't sure how bad the abuse was and if he would actually be allowed to live or be euthanised. Our group of 3 were in shock from the state of him and his mother and brother/dad. We published many other photos but this photo captured not only Marvin's awful state of health but also how miserable he looked. I think that is what struck people.

Marvin is still recognised today by the Perth public when we are out with him.

Women never went bare-legged and they still wore hats to church with matching gloves and shoes. As women did not have freedom to create their own look, they had to dress a certain way. Jean Shrimpton stopped the nation with her outfit. It was not long after this, women started using fashion as a way of displaying their power.
