American Dream in the 60s

The 1960s play "A Raisin in the Sun" by Lorraine Hansberry, glorifies the idea of the American Dream. The play focuses on a black family struggling to achieve the American Dream in the Chicago area. The family is a family of 5 that lives in a small apartment. The family doesn't make their way up to a house until they get a life insurance check. Ruth and Walter Lee worked the most hours to get the American Dream, yet in the end they still don't have a car or money for Beneatha's or Travis's education. Through this, we can see that hard work can sometimes only get a portion of what we call the American Dream.
