-  A few Irish Catholic Soldiers deserted the U.S. Army and went to fight for Mexico.
-  Nicholas P. Trist was sent south of our border to try and work out a treaty with Mexico. The process was taking a long time and President Polk was getting restless. Soon he ordered Trist to stop the treaty and come back home but Trist refused thinking that he was on the verge of an agreement. Polk tried to remove him from Army Headquarters but was not able to. A little while later Trist had struck the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo which was to end the war.
- The Mexican War reduced the size of Mexico by 1/2.
