Tutorial Week 4: Where do you see the future of user-generated content in the next 5 years?

In my opinion, user-generated content (UGC) would be a major factor in the marketing industry. Many brands would eventually start using UGC because the contents are created by the consumers. This is because the consumers know what they want and usually keeps up with the changing trends.

Many companies would eventually start using UGC as it gives them better exposure and also helps the company save up on advertising as the users/fans do not get paid, as they willingly post about the brand/product.

For example, Netflix started a ‘Stranger Things 2' hashtag to promote their upcoming second season of the series. Thousands of people were inspired and started posting images of strange things in their daily lives with the hashtag of the show.

Customers nowadays prefer authenticity, which is why they would prefer brands that they can connect with on a human level, and brands that “get them”.

Tutorial Week 5: Why do you trust or distrust newspapers?

It depends on what kind of news is published. I trust newspapers when they publish situations that happened, such as accidents or conferences that took part. This is because the information was given to the publishers firsthand.

Articles about celebrities on the other hand, depends on the situation. If it is an interview on the celebrity, than it could be trusted; if the news is published without consulting the famous personal than it is just written as an assumption, therefore could not be trusted.

Will movie theaters exist in 2030?

In my opinion, movie theaters would most likely still exist. Even with the current technology that allows us to stream movies, there are still those who love to enjoy movies in the cinema when it is first released.

How do you envision the film watching experience in the near future?

I believe in the future, most of the films would be 4D where audience would feel as if they are in the movie. Some movies may also be watched through virtual reality.

Major broadcast networks have been losing viewers for the past two decades. Will they still be relevant 10 years from now. Why or why not?

In my opinion, it is still relevant in 10 years. This is because not everyone has good Internet or Internet at all, they would rely on these networks to get information. Besides, TV series take longer time to be uploaded on streaming sites, therefore many still watch them using the broadcast network.

Tutorial Week 8: Compare traditional radio listening with listening to a station via a mobile app. How are they different?

Traditional radio listening would be more convenient compared to listening via a mobile app. This is because when we listen to the radio using the traditional way, we do not need to download specific apps just to listen to the radio. Instead, we could just press a few buttons or turn the knobs to change the frequency. We also do not need to worry about the app occupying our phone storage.

But, listening to the radio via a mobile app allows us to catch up on previous sessions we missed. We are able to access the sessions whenever we want, whereas listening to it traditionally, when we missed it, we could never replay it unless the mobile app is downloaded.
