         <description><![CDATA[<div>Thesis: In her poem "I Once Was a Child", Victoria Chang uses ambiguity to express her gratefulness for the opportunities in America, but also her disillusionment for the consequences of capitalism.<br>Body 1: Chang draws a connection between level of work ethic to "prize", meaning people get what they deserve but the punishment can be too harsh.<br>Body 2: She notes that capitalism and equality can be harsh but accepting, as "in this land" people get fired easily but women have more opportunities.<br>Body 3: Through the patriotic songs, Chang admits that she is proud to be American but understands that an emphasis on private property can be negative.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Thesis- In her poem, "I Once Was a Child', Victoria Chang utilizes punctuation and ambiguity to express the lack of control she felt as a child.<br>BP 1- Chang doesn't use punctuation as a way to gain some control, particularly over the reader.&nbsp;<br>BP 2- Additionally by creating an ambiguous meaning in her poem Chang is able to criticize more than her lack of control but her fathers as well. <br>BP 3- Finally the last stanzas show Chang's lack of control in a larger way as she becomes an American.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Thesis: Throughout the poem "I Once Was a Child", Victoria Chang uses stream of consciousness and symbolism in order to convey the speaker's resolve to not let the past dwell upon her and to move on.<br>Body 1: By using stream of consciousness, which consists of lack of punctuation, the speaker explains how seemingly fast her life has progressed without her having control over it.<br>Body 2: This apparent loss of control is further exemplified by the speaker's submission to her father and "someone who owns the land".<br>Body 3: On top of the speaker's overall ambiguity, children's toys such as lollipops and spinning tops convey the controlling nature that society has on her.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Thesis: In his poem, “Naming of Parts”, Henry Reed uses naturalistic imagery, an instructional tone, and periods to paint the picture of a teacher and their students.<br>Body 1: Using naturalistic imagery throughout the poem, Reed insinuates the joys of youth and nature that the students are missing out on while being taught.<br>Body 2: Reed also uses an instructional, bordering on monotonic, tone to accentuate the presence of the teacher teaching the students.<br>Body 3:&nbsp; Lastly the use of periods in the poem make the lines seem like actual instructions, or rather teachings, instead of poetic rhetoric, which then again highlights the teacher-student dynamic.</div>]]></description>
