Emily's disbelief of her fathers death reflects upon her obsession because she does not want to accept the fact that the only person her life is gone. Her father has been the only true person that she has know and he has manipulated her into being a dependent mind, so when her father passes away it is difficult for her to accept it. Emily is so stubborn that she believes her own truth rather than the facts that she is so blind to see as a result from her obsession.

Since Emily always had a manly presence with her, the thought of losing Homer the first time was enough for her to want to kill him. Emily decided that she was better off killing Homer because she wanted to prevent him from running away, considering that he was bisexual. We could tell that she was still obsessed with Homer because after she killed him she still continued to sleep with him as a form of necrophilia, which also attributes to her psychotic tendency because she was still in love with Homer even though he was dead.

Obsession is a state of mind that causes a person to not stand to be without something or someone and they will do whatever it takes to make sure that does not happen. As result of Emily's unhealthy obsession is her weight gain that the townspeople notice. Once Homer dies she feels depressed and lost because her obsession can no longer be fulfilled since Homer is dead, which leads to her excessive act of eating because that was her way of dealing with her loss.
