The work you did with families and students in my time here at GMS was nothing less than authentic and impactful 💯

I will miss you. Thank you for all of your extra time and support on the soccer field during your lunches, in the morning before work hours, and during your breaks at school to help with family connection.

For your countless, selfless hours helping me push the right buttons on my computer, the ability to fix everything from the laminator to the printer to the phone and more, I am thankful. What am I going to do without you? You have been gracious and patient in helping me to navigate various, last-minute tech issues. You have selflessly dedicated morning hours assisting students with their math studies. AND, you have sacrificed your body by playing soccer during lunch recess!

The first word that came to mind when I thought of while this link was loading was "selfless," and scanning what others have said, it pops up over and over again. You ALWAYS put the needs of the community first over your own time and your own convenience, and without complaint. The impact you have made on both students and staff is so large as to be immeasurable. Just one example of many: There are students attending college now who would not be there if you had not spent hours in the early morning and throughout the day, tutoring them in math. While I am so sad that our community is to lose you, I am THRILLED that you are getting your teaching license and will continue to impact students for years to come. It is only right that you'll have the title that acknowledges what has been true for so long.

I am so sad that the GMS community is losing you, and SO happy for your future and the schools you will teach at. I've never worked with someone who went as above and beyond as you do. You have always been patient and kind when helping me resolve tech issues. Countless students have been impacted by your loving connections, whether it's teaching math, playing soccer, or just being someone who students can relate to and who can literally speak their language. I remember the first time we met at George M.S. and you helped me navigate the building and use technology when I was a substitute. :)
I also remember how welcomed you always made me feel and how the students reacted to you whenever they saw you in the hallway., the pure joy in their faces. Than, when I became a full-time teacher I watched you come in early and leave late everyday, helping our students and families navigate school and strengthen their math skills. I always thought to myself, "he should be a teacher, we need more people like him in the classroom." Needless to say, I'm so happy for all of your future students that will have the honor of you being their teacher!

Mr. Vargas thank you for all you did to support me when I was new to George Middle School. I always knew that when I needed technology help you would be there for me. I know you spent decades unjamming the laminator too, and a million other unseen tasks that we all depended on. Even more importantly you had a huge impact on our students. You were there holding them to high expectations, supporting them in their own language, having fun on the soccer field, and being a constant and safe person in their life. I'm so excited for your journey as you finish school, and I can't wait for you to return to us.
