When we look at something, we do not see it as it is but rather how we are.

We have become human doings rather than human beings. We're not taking the time to think about anything other than tasks.

Use mindfulness to tap into your inner creative space. Recharge your batteries. Switch off your fight or flight mode.

Misunderstandings, expectations and assumptions are responsbile for majority of failures.

You can take a great deal of your previous life with you. You are never starting from scratch.

Keep an inventory of you. From time to time ask yourself what is it that makes me unique.

Your specific expertise is just as imp as portable skills. Just find the place where that gap exists.

What are the most transferable skills?

1. Meta expertise - feel the weight of your current expertise - intuition, ability to communicate ideas.

2. Scientific thinking - know the difference between an opinion and evidence, understand stats. Question and challenge status quo.

3. Design skills - theory and thinking. Belief that designs can always be improved.

Sub-branch of design is creativity. Top tips. 1. Note when you are creative and reproduce those conditions. 2. Incubation period. Work hard then set it aside for a couple of weeks. Obvs build this into your planning. 3. Creativity tends to happen when you are doing mechanical, non thinking activities eg driving, jogging, shower.

4. Empathy. Actors will always ask the director, whats my motivation in this scene? Think about your stakeholders and their motivations. Empathy is a skill you can get better at. Bank your own experiences for future use.

5. Giving and taking criticism. Neil galman - editors are always right when they say there is a problem, but always wrong if they try to pinpoint it and tell you how to fix it. You should pay attention to where they say there is a problem. Especially if they are on your side.

Six. Reflection. Learning curve not as steep, but only if you reflect on what you did. This is a habit not a skill.
