You are a true warrior! Our family has been praying for you every day. It’s so amazing to see God’s hand on your life. What an unbelievable journey He has you on. You probably wonder “why me, God” a lot. I would. You’ve been through so much. But then there’s also the “why me, God” the opposite way! Out of all the kids in the world, He chose YOU all those year ago to be saved from your lung illness, and to be adopted by your family who loves you SO MUCH! Talk about a miracle chain of events! It’s really obvious to see God’s hand on your life. He has used you over and over again to encourage so many of us.


You are one tough cookie. I know there have been so many ups and downs. Keep putting one foot in front of the other and you WILL get through this! You are loved!!

You are so strong. I know it; I think everyone who knows you knows that. And though it may not feel like it, you’re going to be stronger than ever before after all this. You were dealt a tough-as-nails hand of cards… because, for whatever reason, I guess you’re supposed to be built tough as nails (but obviously also sweet and smart since you are The Kid of The Wonderful Linda and Tim Berg).


Strength comes from within, and is forged by flame. You have to overcome adversity in order to grow strong, whether that’s emotionally, spiritually, or physically. With all the work you’re doing now, and in the upcoming weeks, I foresee you growing into one of the strongest, kindest, smartest guys around. It will be very hard indeed, but I don’t think there is anyone more capable to rise to the challenge than you. I believe in you, Desté; I’ve always admired your strength, and i’ve been thinking of you often through all of this.
