1. Start my life

Hi. My name is Felipe Castro and this is my timeline. I was born on 29th July 1997, in a small town, it's name is Facatativá, is very close to Bogotá city.

2. My first day of school

When I was about 5 years old, I started studying at Rafael Pombo School. I was very scared. My mom took me to school, and I remember crying a lot during the first few days. Then I found friends and i felt better.

3. Professor Pedraza

I will never forget my primary school days, The Professor Pedraza was a very funny man who made great classes. He would jump from the desk or throw something to keep us paid attention. I really enjoyed his classes.

4. Colombian Sign Languaje

When I was about 13 years old, I began to associate with the deaf community and learned sign language with a group dedicated to teaching the Bible to deaf people without profit motive. I felt very happy to comunicate in my second language.

5. My first job

When I graduated from high school, I studied Electricity at SENA in Bogotá. It was 2 hours away from home. When I finished the entire course, I couldn't find a job, that made me felt bad, so I worked as a Colombian sign language interpreter.

6. The death of my grandparents

During those days when I was starting my first job, my last grandfather die. I felt very sad thinking about how much I miss them. My whole family looked very upset, and it made me think a lot about a teaching career. My grandparents taught me many things and were the best teachers. My job as a school interpreter and my personal experience made me think that teachers are not good.

7. Bethel

The community that teaches the Bible to the deaf people needed support translating material into Colombian Sign Language, and they called me to help. I felt really happy that they saw in me the abilities to teach at a national level. So, I accepted and lived for 2 years in Bethel, a house of this community with international outreach.

8. Moved to Bogotá

"After Bethel, I moved to Bogotá to work as an interpreter in a school and to get more money. In Bogotá, I felt a bit lonely because I was far from my family, but in those 2 years I learned a lot of my job and the rol of being a teacher."

9. UNAD

I started studying at UNAD because I wanted to improve my English level and eventually speak in differents languages. Additionally, I reflected on the role of the teacher and felt that education is un bit mediocre, that made me felt powerless it has the potential for be better, and I want to be part of that change.

10. Moved to Medellin

I moved to Medellin because in Bogotá, I didn't have time for anything and life was very complicated. Here in Medellin, I feel more free, and time is better utilized. However, the economy is hard, and it mades me feel a little scared because i'm far from my family if anything goes wrong.
