We have had a great term 1 and we have many exciting plans ahead for term 2 around the curriculum, parent partnerships, school trips and more.

We have tried to put the key points together in one place rather than sending out several different communications. We have also included a reminder of some of the amazing activities, events and learning opportunities from term 1.

This is to ensure that our children develop knowledge, skills and habits to prepare them for the future.

We have a number of projects linked to sustainability and we have recently signed up to RAK Green Schools Initiative. Through this and our curriculum, we will aim to raise the profile of BSH as a sustainable school and educate our children about the importance of living a sustainable life.

In January, Grades 2 and 4 will be beginning this process with a recycling project. During the first week back following the winter break I will be asking you and the children to fill out a survey concerning recycling and then the project will begin.

Our aim is to gather as much plastic recycling together whilst highlighting the plastics that can and cannot be recycled, to the children. Once we have been doing this for four weeks we will use the plastic to make a sculpture which will be a focal point in our ‘ECO Exhibition’ at the end of Term 2.

Following this we will ask the whole school to be a part of the recycling project for the rest of the academic year and next year too.

All students with 100% attendance for term 1 will receive a special Head Teacher Award Certificate.

We know there are always time when students are not well enough to attend school but cannot emphasise enough that being at school allows children to make progress and time off compromises this.

Our current whole school attendance from the beginning of term 1 is 94.8% for the whole school. Grade 1 to Grade 5 attendance is slightly higher at 96.1%. To be judged as a 'Very Good' School for attendance, 96% is necessary and to be judged as 'Outstanding' in this area, we would need to secure 98% for the year.

We were also finally able to announce the BSH House system where every student within RAK Academy is placed in a house. This being- Red Foxes, Green Falcons, Black Horses or White Eagles. Our focus for the New Year will be working towards a Green Schools Award. The Green Schools Initiative was launched by Public Services Department, in cooperation with Ras al Khaimah Educational Zone, and seeks to educate students and teachers to raise awareness of environmental issues and promote sustainability. Various events in the coming months will soon be announced.

Well-Being and E- Safety are also on our agenda. We will be working alongside our schools Digital leaders to promote e- safety and other digital activities.

Well-Being will also be promoted with a monthly theme. For example, January is our month of positive accomplishments and working towards meaningful goals.
