This is an example of sibling loyalty because this shows how Jeanette and Lori stood up for Brian against Erma’s abuse, it showed how much they cared for him and how much they needed each other to get through tough times. Even though their parents neglected them, they always supported each other. The strong bond between Jeanette, Lori, and Brian is really important for their survival. This scene is a clear example of sibling loyalty to help them face tough situations together. Jeannette and Lori's actions show that they are willing to even confront family members to protect one another. Their bond helped them stay strong when their parents didn’t protect them.

The impact of parent neglect

This is an example of parental neglect because Jeanette's mom, lets her take care of herself instead of providing proper supervision and care. Jeanette says her mom lets her cook for herself a lot, which shows that Rose Mary isn’t doing things like cooking for her or making sure she’s safe. Instead of protecting her daughter, Rose Mary expects Jeanette to act like an adult. The nurses reaction shows that they recognize that something is wrong because a child shouldn’t have to cook for themselves at such a young age. Jeanette’s situation is a sign of neglect because her parents are not fulfilling their responsibilities to care for her properly.

This is an example of the pursuit of freedom and happiness because it shows how Jeanette wants a better and happier future. She feels trapped by the painful memories of her childhood and wants to escape the neglect and chaos caused by her parents. Jeanette knows that to find freedom and happiness, she needs to get away from her childhood. This wish for a better life becomes her motivation to focus on her education and work hard to create a life that’s different from her parents mistakes. Jeanette wants to build her future by making choices that give her hope. The pursuit of freedom and happiness is what drives her to keep moving forward, even when things seem impossible. It shows how strong she is to overcome her past and create a life for herself.

This is an example of hopes and dreams because it shows how Jeanette’s dreams helped her stay motivated, even though she went through a lot of hard times. Growing up in a poor and neglecting home, she imagined a better future where she had things that most people took for granted, like a real bathroom and a stove. These dreams gave her hope and something to look forward to, even when life was tough. They pushed her to work hard and not give up, even when it seemed impossible. Jeanette’s hope for a better life helped her get through the difficult moments. Her dreams made her keep going and focus on what could be instead of what was. Her dreams helped her build a better life.

Personal Independence

This is an example of Personal Independence because it shows how Jeanette had to learn to take care of herself because her parents couldn’t do it. Since her parents weren’t able to look after her, she figured out how to survive on her own. This shows that Jeanette started to become independent at a young age. She realized that if she wanted to be okay she had to rely on herself. Jeanette had to solve problems and deal with tough situations without help. Even though she was just a kid, she learned to be strong and take care of her own needs. This shows how important it was for her to become independent and not depend on others to take care of her.

Unconditional Love

This is an example unconditional love because it shows the deep love between Jeanette and her father. Even though Rex didn’t always take care of Jeanette and her siblings, Jeanette still loved him. She didn’t expect him to be perfect, and her love for him didn’t depend on that. Their love for each other was unconditional, meaning it didn’t change, even when things were tough. Jeanette loved her father no matter what happened, even when he made mistakes. This kind of love is special because it stays the same, even through hard times. Jeanette’s love for Rex remained strong, despite the problems they faced together.
