Having those numbers means they could have a huge impact on election results. The youth do not vote because the "system is so antiquated and inefficient" (Simmons), is seen as a hassle, and the feeling that their vote does not matter. The youth don't vote because they are easily discouraged.  In a nation where tens of millions of people vote, they don't feel theirs counts.  They also feel that political issues are not relevant to them.

Teachers, parents and politicians have a responsibility to our nation's future to convey the importance of voting to the young voters. We need to make them see that the results of elections have a direct effect on their daily lives.
