    • The test looks to detects the viral RNA of SARS-CoV-2

    • It works by taking a sample from the patients respiratory tract

    • The test is done by taking a sample from the back of the throat or the nose using a long swab, from there sent to the laboratory where it is tested for the presence of the virus's genetic material. This process takes anywhere from a few hours to a few days.

    • Alternate Test Methods:

    • Antigen test: These test detects specific proteins on the surface of the virus, they are faster but less sensitive compared to the PCR test.

    • Antibody Test: These test detect the presence of antibodies against SARS-CoV-2, indicating past infections or immune responses.
