Concerns About Technology in my Field?

I think my main concern about technology while being a math teacher is that it's kind of hard to show your work when completing math assignments online. I like to be able to write down each step to see what I did, and you can kind of do that with technology, but not as flawlessly as on pen and paper. Any suggestions?

When I took College Algebra a million years ago. My college teacher made us turn in a quarterly notebook as a grade. That notebook had my assignments for the Chapters. She graded them during our tests and added the homework grade to our test grade. If you did all of the homework, you could pass the class. Even if you did poorly on the tests. She really made that notebook worth completing.

This may sound simple, but you could have the students write out all the steps that they did to solve the problem. Example: First I, Then I,...etc) That is not perfect, but it could be an option. Another option is to have students do their work on paper and then take pictures to upload. That way they can still show their work and prove they did it.

You could have the students use paper to solve the problems and turn that in after their online work has been submitted. This could help you find where mistakes were made and address areas with the class if several students seem to be getting stuck on the same concept.

I think my main concern when it comes to technology in ELA is that we do have options but I feel as if they are always limited to auto reading or or tablet reading. I wish they provided more activity base approach.

When it comes to math, I prefer paper just because I can easily write and erase on it. My suggestion would be to have students work on their problems on paper and then turn it in to you or submit it online. Most teachers that teach mathematics use papers and I think it's a good method.

I agree that it is very difficult to show work for an online math class! I have taken many online courses that involve work to be turned in alongside an assignment, but it is always a lot of work to have to email things constantly. I think the best thing would be to consolidate the week/month/9-week period into one and have them turn in all the notes at once. This way you can go through and look at multiple questions and see where they are going wrong.

Although it might seem/be a pain to students, you could always allow them to upload their work online. Some might prefer to do it online and some on paper, but it would be good if everyone uploaded their work to get the answers on an email or wherever it would be easier.
