thanks for you time, training is the key for both people, probably the part we struggle with the most. then the complicated scheduling, sounds like many of your students receive services in the gen ed setting, we receive most of our students from Elementary with IEP's that state RR which makes alot of IEP revisions for the case manager - something we are hoping to change in 5th grade.

I found the visual of different ways to co-teach (station teaching, 1 teaching 1 drifting...)

I am still wondering logistically at a building level (thinking elementary) how does this work for the building schedule - aligning gen ed subject blocks, specialist, etc - with one or two sped teachers and meeting service minutes for students with IEPs.

1. I used to vaguely know what co-teaching was and now I know that it takes a great team to make co-teaching work. It is great to have another style of teaching in your shared class and it will likely only be a few classes at a time.

2. I found it interesting when you said it took four years to really get co-teaching down, but I understand we are all human and unless you have an open mind and willingness it will take even longer!

3. I am still wondering when this might be used in my school.

I used to know the different types of co-teaching. I appreciated hearing your reasoning for using each. Also, the focus on crucial conversations is critical. Great reminder.

I wonder how to keep numbers around 30% if there are more students than staffing for the model. We ran into this dilemma at Lochburn.

We also found challenges with co-planning; if the co-teacher was teaching with multiple grades/subjects, we couldn't have the same plan.

Co-teaching when done well was AMAZING!!!

On a side note, I partnered Lochburn with Jason Lee for our AVID adoption years ago. Jason Lee, now Hilltop Heritage ROCKS! Thank you for all your support. I wish we would have done the same with co-teaching, but I think we were starting co-teaching at close to the same time.

Thank you,
Josh
