She was sarcastic, sardonic, and threw away punchlines better than anyone I met before or since.
She was constantly mumbling something hilarious, and I her only audience.
We cruised Central, popped in at The Yacht Club (Even though the very name told us we didn’t belong). Mostly we hung around my house, playing ping pong, singing with my siblings, and trying to find that thin line between exciting and illegal.
When, at 19, I decided, off the cuff, to have an out-of-town wedding “in four weeks”, Nancy helped me throw the shindig together, agreeing to play Maid of Honor. Then, I moved away, she married, and over the years we lost touch.
What I’ve learned through the years is that later on she was happily married for a short time to a man who died. She became a pool shark known as Not So 8 Ball. And she had a lovely daughter who befriended me on Facebook.
I’ve been missing Nancy for most of my life. I hope she’s at peace.

She woke me up early, and we went fishing. JUST THE TWO OF US. It was so special. I spent most of the time hunting for frogs to catch and release, and she got a great morning of sitting peacefully by a lake, fishing. We noticed some commotion in the bushes, and we discovered a little duckling trapped in fishing wire. She spent a long time getting it untangled and removed a hook from its bill -the mother duck quacking angrily at us the whole time. I got to stand really close and look at the cute duckling while my mom rescued it.
