The main cause for the Enlightenment period was the Thirty Years' Wars. After the war, German writers, such as Hugo Grotlus, started writing about new ideas to fix war and hate and sharing their writing all over Europe. European thinkers also developed an increased interest in the world outside of their countries. This led to the exploration of other cultures, civilizations, and societies around the world. Which in turn developed into more scientific discoveries, primarily earth science and astronomy. After the French Revolution, the Enlightenment period ended due to competing ideas throughout philosophers and politicians. In fact, many people blame the French Revolution on the Enlightenment period because so many people disagreed with one another. It is safe to say that the enlightenment ultimately caused the violence and mass destruction across France in the 18th century.
