Coming From America

The view that foreign people cant make a life for there self in America is wrong. In order to make a life for yourself it involves hard work. Throughout the show family members take shots and comment on there unauthentic new lifestyle. Eddie Huang struggles in America and grows jealous of his little brothers success and lavish lifestyle hes living in Taiwan. Yet his brother congratulates him on his success and says hes glad he stayed in Taiwan because he wouldn't be as successful in America as his brother. The overall success anywhere involves dedication, patience and hard work. It doesn't matter about where your from, profiling is happening and creating false accusation of different races and religions. Thinking they cant do it but everyone has the opportunity and chance to do it.

What is White Privilege?

Many white people feel as though they are not privileged and that they live the same “easy” life as many black people, but this is not the case. Black people have been oppressed by white people for the longest time. White people used their “superiority” to oppress blacks. For example whites would report black people to the police for no legal reason and then police would shoot a colored person because they “feared for their life”. White privilege even became the normal, bandages were the color of white people's skin. This relates to TEWWG because after the hurricane deceased whites were built coffins and deceased blacks were thrown in a pit. White men ran the project to collect all the dead bodies and black men were forced to do the work for them.

A Danger Of A Single Story

She tells a story about how she felt bad for a boy that would come around to get clothes and food from her family because he was poor. His family had nothing and so she looked at them to have nothing at all, no skills, no work. She then traveled to his house with her family and say that his brother had made a beautiful basket, she then realized his family is the same as hers just less fortunate than her own. She then traveled to the United States for college adn found herself rooming with an american woman who felt pity for her. The american woman thought she had nothing, thought she couldn’t speak english or use a stove. She immediately stereotyped her based on where she was from. Just because her skin was darker and she was from africa the american girl figured she had nothing. This relates to TEWWG because Janie had a hard time accepting her identity, let alone finding herself, and the african american girl felt the same way and the she realized she finally accepted her identity.

Social classes have always been a huge problem in American. Americans have been getting paid by their “social class” for many years now, but a social class is nothing more than a label based on where you live and wealthy or poor you are. The gap between the wealthy and middle class is almost as high as it was in the gilded age. Children that are born into high class families already have a financial advantage on others. Social class is directly correlated with race but 27.4% of blacks in American live in poverty.

Class discrimination still occurs in society today which include behaviors, individual attitude, and system of policies and practices that are set to benefit a certain class. Class discrimination is based on family wealth, income, and education. Class discrimination is differential treatment based on social class.
