  • Pratt, “The Arts of the Contact Zone”

For this activity, you will create two posts that offer academic summaries of “The Category Is Royalty” and “The Arts of the Contact Zone”. Each post should have:
  • A focus on each text’s presentation of identity and creating “mixed” texts.
  • A “packed” introductory sentence 
  • Sentences that use the creator’s name, signal verb, and concrete explanations of important ideas or moments
  • 2-3 paragraphs that group the important ideas or moments logically.

If you finish the summary task:
  1. Review your summaries of the previous texts.
  2. Create a new post that notes what is missing from your previous summaries. 
    1. Explain what work you will need to do to use this summary in Assignment #2.
    2. Connect this “review” post to the original summary post.

how females don't feel like they have an identity for example like nosotros.
a language is a common idea and she felt had to pick one language. but then she would get punished for speaking spanish.

towards hispanics and white people that aren't aware for the different types of spanish.

Common Ideas: In her community, it was not acceptable to be lesbian, but she also didn't want to accept it. struggled dealing with being comfortable, believed the devil was a part of her. 
Audience : LGBTQ people who are hispanic as well who are afraid to come out. people who want to learn more about the hispanic culture.

Transculturation is a phenomenon of contact zone. Contact zone is defined in the text as a term that refers to social spaces where subordinate people are dominant or not. usually there is power in colonialism, slavery, or the aftermath in which the people live in the world today.
