Step 5: Map Mashup - Airports in Ireland

My fifth step was creating my google spreed sheet in order to show the latitude, longitude, name and address of my topic. I choose airports as my main topic and selected four of the most popular airports in Ireland. Once I fully completed my spreadsheet I then reviewed the step by step guide provided my Ucd library on Brightspace. In order to fully complete my map I also changed the icons to aeroplanes so there were easy to locate on the finished map.

In order to create my Padlet My first step was searching Padlet into the Google search engine and clicking the first link that came up. Next I had to sign up, this involved creating a user name and password. Once created I recived an email to confirm the creation of my account. Once my account was fully activated I logged into brightspace and referred to the YouTube videos that were provided under the my learning tab. I watched all the videos and then I had a good understanding of the Padlet format and how to navigate myself around the site in order to efficiently use it.

Step 4: Pinterest vs Pocket

Although Pinterest and Pocket are very similar in layout they both serve completely different purposes. They both facilitate users to organise and store there ideas and thoughts in a very efficient way. Pinterest however focuses on images. its a platform where users get to explore different topics through photos. Its is a app that encourages creativity and inspiration, whereas Pocket is used for more practical use. Customers use pocket in order to save and organise articles they find on the internet. Pocket gives them a space where once saved to there account the articles are easy to access at any given time.

My second step was to make Pinterest account. When my account was made I was asked what topics I had interest in, I began searching through Pinterest exploring all they had to offer. The topics I had interest in were kitchen décor, clothing, and nail art. Once I had chosen my topics I divided and organised them into different folders and sub folders.

My third step was creating my pocket account. Similarly to creating my Pinterest I had to google search pocket, sign up with a user name and password. I then had to download pocket on the App Store. Once my profile was complete I started reading through suggested articles that came up. The ones that caught my eye I favourited and was then able to save for later. When I was finished I created a list of articles I could access later under my favourites folder.

I firstly went back to Brightspace and read and watched all the videos in order to help me set up both accounts. The tutorials gave me a step by step guid to creating both my YouTube and Screencast-Omatic accounts. Once both accounts were set up it was important I made sure all my settings were correct. I then used Screencast to create my video. Once my video was complete I uploaded it to YouTube.

I went onto my BrightSpace, and under my learning tab, there were various how-to videos on how to make a linked in account and profile. I followed each step that the video offered. Once my account was set up I then created my profile. My profile was made up of my information and background, such as what school I went to, what degree I'm studying, and what work experience I have had. Once my profile was up to date I made my account public. I equally sought out people of interest in order to make connections on the app.

I then watched all the videos linked under BrightSpace, these videos gave me a good grasp on how to navigate the site and how to maximise all the tools and features PiktoChart has to offer.

The reason behind the policy I have created is that I feel if you are under the age of 18 is important that all rights to the content posted when you are underage belong to you. In youth a lot of learning and development happens and children may use media irresponsibly as they aren't aware of the repercussions or dangers of the internet. Similar to legal matters involving crime. when a person is under age their criminal record gets dismissed, I feel on all social platforms youth should have the same opportunity for a fresh start. Currently there is very little legal protection for young people on the internet which in my opinion, due to the digital revolution needs to change.

The second tutorial was all based on data visualisation and explaining in detail what an infographic is and how to properly display an info graph. It brought you through slides that explained what you need on an info-graph was the public responds to on an infographic but also how layout your graph to maximise the reach as well as the information. Both tutorials had a quiz at the end in order to test you on the information that the slides had just presented.
