Are they? I still don't associate coffee with McDonalds. I feel like Starbucks could soon overtake McDonalds due to the fact that Starbucks has expanded beyond the food service industry.

I definitely wouldn't say that McDonalds is giving Starbucks a "run for their money." I think that there is no question that by McDonalds expanding their coffee products that it has increased competition, however Starbucks still dominates the designer coffee market. There is no question that people still view McDonalds as a place to get quick, cheap food and nothing else.

I would have to agree. Starbucks centralizes their focus on premium coffee with an impressive resume of styles and flavors. McDonalds is known to copy any trends thats popular at the time, with getting a more health conscious menu, restructuring the physical stores to appear more high-end, and incorporating more options out side "burgers and nuggets" like wraps. No question Mc Donalds is working hard to market their coffee as well to make it the centralized place for Breakfast lunch, and dinner. Starbucks, though, remains ideal for coffee

McDonald's Coffee might be cheaper and more accessible for some, but as everyone has stated, Starbucks is grounded within the coffee industry as king. McDonald's coffee is more of an extension that gives customers more options to choose McDonald's over other fast food chains. I don't think they are competing directly in regards to coffee sales.
