I am from Chennai and I have never been to a village. My visualization of a village basically comes from movies and news that I see every day. The first thing that comes to my mind when I hear about villages is paddy fields. My visualization of a village is a green paddy field with farmers nourishing it with manure, cows grazing along the sides, and people living in tiled roofs with an open courtyard. From my point of view, villages are the cradles that keep our country's culture in check. I would love to visit a village and interact with people there and getting to know about their way of life. Cheers🙌.

I am from Bangalore and I am presenting my visualization based on my visit to my grandparents village. The very first thing noticeable from the houses is the maroon roof tiles. And the walls of the village houses were usually coated with mud or mud like substances. Some houses do have an extended portico or balcony kind of place where people could sit and hang out with others. As we move into the house, the inner walls are coated with calcium carbonate and the roof is supported using wooden beams.

maroon - roofing tiles
extended balcony
grey - signifies calcium carbonate coat

where I am from, I have seen that few people have hens, cows, sheep and dogs. Hens are usually kept under a basket, where as cows and sheep are kept in a small area supported by wooden beams and thatched roof. They do consist of watering areas to water cows and sheep.

My view on the positioning of village (also from my visit) is that it is directed from highway to outskirts where the village is located. It is surrounded by few hills, the houses are compactly situated in 1 part where in the other section includes a common and a busy marketplace, a local bus stand with very few buses, a local clinic (for hospitals, must go to nearby town) and a single school (limited classes). Vehicles vary from bullocks to bikes with rarely any other. The village has lots of streets connecting it. Some houses have wells for water resource. Most of the people there involve themselves in farming or farming aiding services such as fertilizers, etc and people mostly consume local produce.

Going to the village in the holidays gives refreshment and peace of mind from the bonding of people, climate and greenery. The village mornings start with the cock-a-doodle-doo. The cooking is mostly done on pottery vessels using the woods from the fields. In our field there is a well and it is dry most of the times. I am a bit scared to pass by the well after I have seen a snake near it. The electricity comes at odd times, so my grandfather goes to the field even in the late nights for irrigational purposes. The drinking water comes for only a limited time (like 2 hours) for the whole village and that leads to a rush sometimes at the borewell. Children can study only up to 5th class in the school village. For high school children have to go to Mandal by bus. My grandfather goes to bazaar once a week to get the groceries.

This is the pic of cooking place in my grandfather's house.

After our tiring academic works going to our native village during our holidays gives us lot of pleasure and sweet memories. My native village (Athivaraganalloor) is located in Tamilnadu .It is a small village where we can see more huts and few big houses . I like the concept of "mutram" in all the houses. This mutram is usually open to sky and this provides sunlight to the entire house as well as good air circulation. The houses also have a raised seating at the entrance which is called as "Thinnai".This is usually constructed for the passerby to take rest without entering the house. These houses won't have compound walls but instead of it they have walls build with bamboo sticks. They keep lot of pets (cows ,hens ,goats) in their home .Most of them would be having two wheeler ,tractors and bullock cart. Mostly they grow paddy , sugarcane , black gram and pulses in their fields. Vegetables would be grown in the backyard itself. Our village has 3 ponds which is filled with lily and lotus.Small kids would be doing fishing in that pond.We could also find peacocks and monkeys. It is always fun to play in the fields and enjoy my holidays with my cousins.Visiting village always gives us the best memories.

A village in the 2020s - Sandhitha Patnaik

Hello all!
I started off by thinking about ancient times when people didn't have any of the basic facilities, then it struck me suddenly that things are really different now (in 2020)!
And although we have villages with minimal facilities but most of the villages in the country are developing under various projects in various aspects.

The image I have attached in the form of a link gives a slight idea of how a village (most nowadays) will look like; Pardon my sketching skills.

A brief note about the villages - from the conventional ways people of the village are progressing and adapting to various new techniques, be it for household jobs, cooking gas, farming techniques and methods, water planning, layout and harvesting and so on and so forth. In addition to which we also have people using automobiles (some 4 wheelers too), the utilization of internet although only with phones mostly; and other domains like the laundry system are being improvised too. Teaching and health care facilities have taken a great leap in most villages compared to the progress from the last 10 years and this is mainly because of the expansion of cities and plots sold near highways which bring these villages into the notice of various organization which help them develop!
The development of the village more or less depends on the history of the village, say it was formed because of a mine or because of good land for farming etc., based on these factors the future if the village is shaped.
