To ensure that we would not be alone on this planet, Allah SWT created a large number of people. However, when a group of people becomes more than the environment can support, it is referred to as overpopulation. Overpopulation occurs due to numerous circumstances like lack of family planning, cultural factors, many job opportunities and many more. Penang is known as the second smallest state after Perlis and the population of Pulau Pinang was estimated at approximately 1.77 millions in July,2023. This state has the highest population density of all Malaysian state, excluding Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya. In addition, Pulau Pinang is one of the most urbanised Malaysian states, with an urbanisation level of 90.8% as of 2015.

Overpopulation can cause air pollution to worsen dramatically because of greater human activities and a higher concentration of automobiles and industry. Another advanced state is Pulau Pinang but to be specific, Penang Island is more worse. People who live inside and outside the state are offered a lot of career and job opportunities as a result of the advancement. A large amount of smoke is released into the air by most people who commute by car or motorcycle. Did you know that motor vehicle smoke is particularly damaging and harmful to living things ? If it is not prevented as soon as possible, it will worsen air pollution.

Each human consume food daily and also has different taste when it comes to food. Regional, cultural, and individual tastes can all have a significant impact on the kinds of food consumed. As a reflection of the cultural and social diversity of various populations, different cuisines across the world offer a wide range of flavors, textures, and culinary traditions. Despite the fact that food is essential to human survival, food waste still remains a problem. The world's top three countries for food waste are China, India and United States. China and India produce more household food waste than any other country worldwide at an estimated 92 million and 69 million metric tons every year, respectively. This is unsurprising, considering both countries have by far the largest populations globally (overpopulation).

As Dr Haeza said during the class on 26 October 2023, there are actually many people who work in Penang but do not actually live here. Most of them live outside Penang Island. That is why, at night Penang Island is not too crowded compared to morning and evening. Besides, Penang Island has many interesting holiday destinations that are able to attract many tourists from outside the state and abroad for vacation, and some even continue to live here. Due to this high population of people, the state has major environmental problems. Overpopulation can cause many negative impacts. It can increase air pollution, and food-waste.

As you go deep into this issue, you can see that there are many factors that can cause overpopulation. Firstly, lack of family planning. Birth rates may stay high and contribute to overpopulation in areas where there is limited access to family planning tools and restricted educational opportunities, especially for women. In Malaysia, it has become the norm for married individuals to have children after they are married to avoid being disapproved of by friends and family. So, there would be a population growth in Penang if this mindset keeps going.

In Malaysia, Penang is known as food paradise especially for food and curry lovers. Even Chinese and Malay people love to eat rice with curry which is known as Nasi Kandar. Nasi kandar is a popular Malaysian dish, and it is originated in India. So that is why many Indian workers work as chefs in the kitchen to make curry sauce because they are very expert. However, due to the overpopulation in Penang and many stalls and restaurants open, it has caused a lot of food waste and excrete rubbish everywhere. Food waste happens because people lack of awareness. Some people may not be aware of the impact of food waste on the environment and society, leading to careless disposal of food. They also often buy food beyond the limit they can reasonably consume. I personally think that foreign tourists are also involved in this problem because usually tourists will want to try different types of food, but no less with the local people's attitude.

The Chinese would burn their prayer papers and this would contribute to open burning and polluting the air. So, in the opinion of Chinese individual, what other ways can they do to avoid this open burning?

Secondly, Penang has high population of people because many foreigners come to Penang for employment as Penang has many job opportunities. They also come here for a vacation and even some people outside of Penang are wed to Penangites. Fun fact, George Town has emerged as Malaysia's hub for medical tourism in recent years, drawing in almost half of all medical tourists and accounting for 70% of the nation's medical tourism earnings. The district's public and private hospitals, affordable housing, and convenient access have all contributed to the growth in medical tourism. Although it is very good for the economy of this state and this region, this still can cause Penang or to be specific,The Northeast Penang Island District, to have an overpopulation of people.

To overcome poverty, unemployment, illiteracy, economic regression, and other issues in the modern world, we must stop the population from growing too quickly. The first solution is we need to do a family planning. Its population must be in good health and in proportion to the wealth of the nation. Family planning techniques and policies from today should be used for this. For newly married couples, it is necessary to have a family plan so that it does not trouble themselves, the community and the country. Parents also cannot force a newly married couple to have children. However, a family culture that views having more children as a positive indicator of a couple's fertility. This is beneficial, but it might backfire if the spouse raising a large number of kids is having financial difficulties.

They need to be more aware of this issue so they don't regret it later.
