I would summarise the article into a PowerPoint format asking many open style questions to push a class debate on sustainable issues including manufacturing of a whole fleet of buses and the creation of jobs. 

I would then have pupils research how damaging the creating of new buses will be including the production of batteries against the positive impacts that the new buses will have on the environment. 

Pupils will also compare the Irish sustainable economic issues such as this against a county with excellent sustainability history and another one with poor sustainability history and present their findings.

This could also slightly play into the theme of self-driving vehicles and what means for a sustainable economy.

How to use stimulus material in your class
  • Show students the short clip on child labour and allow them time to read the news article that comes with video
  • Split students into 5 groups and give them a stakeholder involved in child labour in India
  • Give each group one stakeholder, i.e. the Indian government, the child workers, the companies that order the products, the owner of the factory, or conusmers who buy the products
  • Take a class vote on who is most responsible for the presence of child labour in India and get students to elaborate on their decision, teacher prompts if needed
  • Get students to debate these issues by using the stakeholder they were given and the reasons they have discussed with their groups as a basis for their argument
  • Take a class vote on who holds the greatest power in reducing child labour in India and get students to elaborate on their decision, teacher prompts if needed
